Preseason Coaches Poll to be Released at Noon
August 4th, 2016 at 11:04 AM ^
Preseason Polls are meaningless. Media fodder.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:05 AM ^
Yeah, but I'm still very interested to see what we're ranked.
Coaches poll is not the one I recognize, but I'm expecting a top-5 ranking.
My prediction is #3 in the AP.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:10 AM ^
Do we deserve to be ranked in the top 3 to start the season? I'm actually kind of nervous thinking about that.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:15 AM ^
Everyone is 0-0 and is ranked based on what they have coming back, and probably what they did last year to end the year is factored in along with experience.
We have the talent and the coaching to win the whole thing.

"We have the talent and the coaching to win the whole thing."
Must... resist... urge... to... get... hopes... up...

Seriously! I'm totally with you on this. Harbaugh and the team believe they can do it. They know more football than we ever will. If they believe, then we should, too. We know this team is really good and the coaching staff is elite. Let's do this.
I hope we get a thread or two about this when the poll is released. That should be fun.

We have a roster full of players who will be drafted next year and a coach who doubled our win total from the previous year, in year one.
We were actually in the CFP discussion last year late in the season. In year one.
We killed an SEC division champion in their home state, by 34 points.

SID's usually vote for the HC. My guess, we will be between 4-8.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:50 AM ^
I think he had us several spots below 3.... I just checked, he projected us at 7. Might not want to get your hopes up too high about that top 5 ranking.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:52 AM ^
My drunk hottakes are more insightful than anything Phil Steele writes on his Angelfire website.
Oh, OK
August 4th, 2016 at 11:08 AM ^
Still nice to see how we're perceived - especially from other coaches.

Those last two are rivalry games, so those are important
August 4th, 2016 at 11:41 AM ^
Yes. I really wish Rutgers were at home. Rivalry games are tough enough.

Preseason polls are indeed useless, but specifically the coaches' poll.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:29 AM ^
Wish this were true. IMHO, too often, teams retain high rankings because they don't lose early on, regardless of how poorly they play. Builds a level of emotional committment that in my mind results in unearned bias when comparing teams with close records further down the line in the season.

The dumbest poll in the history of polls.

One of the all time best movies right there. The next scene is fantastic. "HE HATES THESE CANS!"
August 4th, 2016 at 11:16 AM ^
but this stapler and this thermos
August 4th, 2016 at 11:23 AM ^
And this remote control...
August 4th, 2016 at 11:28 AM ^
And this paddle game.......
This ashtray, this paddle game, and the remote control, and the lamp, and that's all I need.

May Musburger forever be banned from calling us Meeeeechigan again.

I don't see us ahead of Alabama, Oklahoma, or Clemson. Somewhere between 4-7.
I'll go for:
1.Alabama
2. Oklahoma
3. Clemson
4. Michigan
5. Florida State
6. LSU
7. Ohio State
8. Stanford
9. Notre Dame
10. Tennessee/USC/Georgia
August 4th, 2016 at 11:22 AM ^
I would put us behind FSU too.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:26 AM ^
Probably right. Possibly lower considering which coaches vote and their opinions of JH.

Did anyone watch OU last year? Complete fraud. Their OL and DL were abused vs Texas, Clemson, TCU, etc. and they don't bring a lot of those guys back. The Big 12 is a terrible conference and they benefited from that greatly last year.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:53 AM ^
Swap Michigan and OSU in that list for a closer representation of the actual poll. I think the coaches will see OSU's situation as more reloading than rebuilding. With an experienced QB, it will be easy for coaches to rank the Buckeyes higher given that we have to break in a new quarterback and questions in the run game.

All of the CFP teams from last year will be ahead of us, plus FSU and LSU.
Writers like Harbaugh and will give him credit. Coaches, ADs and SID's? Too much jealously and hate to be willing to put him in the top 5.
