Had a holiday beer and cookie exchange at our house last week so working through the myriad beers that were left here. Some are truly terrible (Sierra Nevada Celebration) but they aren’t going to drink themselves.

Makes me jealous on both counts. We're having dinner at my son-in-law's parents. They are wonderful people, but not much for drinking. So it's likely to be a pretty dry evening. But it'll be a nice time anyway.

Then tomorrow night, to celebrate my father's 97th birthday, my sister-in-law is going to make something called a Lexington Negroni, which is like a regular Negroni except with Buffalo Trace instead of gin and cream sherry instead of sweet vermouth. Come to think of it, it's almost nothing like a regular Negroni (well, they both have Campari), but I still can't wait. However, my father, as always, will have Scotch and soda in a tall glass.

Awesome!  One of my best moments with my Dad was making him a Manhattan with Buffalo Trace shortly before he passed.  He had quit drinking for many years, just didn't do anything for him so he quit. But 20 years later, cancer came calling.  One night, I asked him what his favorite drink was, he said I always loved a Manhattan. So I looked it up, got the recipe, didn't have any Rye but loved the Buffalo so I made him one.  He drank it and giggled like a little kid.....always will be one of my most blessed memories. Might have to try a Scotch and Soda!!!  Merry Christmas!!!!

My parents were Scotch drinkers. At the age of 97, my father still is. They have "happy hour" at his senior citizens residence ever day at 4:00, and he has his Scotch and soda in a tall glass.

People always gave my parents Scotch, usually Glenlivet or Chivas, as presents. They ended up bringing most of their bottles to my house because that's where they drank it. We wound up with a huge collection.

When they'd visit, after they took their coats off and settled in, I'd always ask if they'd like a drink. My mom would respond, "I thought you'd never ask."

I have to add that my son-in-law's parents served two nice bottles of white wine, a Sauvignon Blanc and Conundrum (which I'd never heard of) to go with delicious salmon that they grilled. It was a nice night. My son-in-law's grandmother who doesn't drink much had about half an inch of wine and got charmingly tipsy. Good think she wasn't driving home.

Drinking water at the nutcracker ballet with my wife, sister, and niece going back and forth in my head whether I should neurotically check on the score of my fantasy championship matchup or put my phone away and take the boost in karma.

Had a lunch with the extended family involving Founder's Porter and then heading out to the Old German with my bro-homies in a little bit.

EDIT: apparently Old German isn't open. ABC it is

Nothing tonight, but I’ve got a bottle of Prosecco and peach nectar and fresh orange juice for Bellinis and mimosas at my family’s brunch tomorrow. For Christmas Day dinner at my in-laws, I have a bottle of Barolo.

I helped the MGoGirlfriend polish off a bottle of Prosecco at her family's pre-Christmas party. Her sister-in-law, who buys wine for the funny label names, gave me an Italian blended red called "Sheep Thrills."

Don't know if it's good or not, but all alcoholic gifts graciously accepted.

I will finish the evening off with a little Buffalo Trace Bourbon. Thinking of netflixing a movie later. I rarely watch movies. Any suggestions? Need something DEEP or War-ish....

I'm still not done shopping. Or wrapping.

And I'm only about 1/3 of the way through assembling a fireplace, which as it turns out, is a massive pain in the ass.

Christmas sprint running low. Hopefully there's some more in this bong.

Doing spaghetti dinner tonight, so I bought a nice Italian red from the Veneto region to go with it.  Will be enjoying a Pipeworks Brewing Velocity of Light oat IPA later in the evening.  Pipeworks makes good beer here in the Chicago market.  Supremium Hypster Beast Mode pale ale was really good.  Couldn’t find any this week, so I guess that’s gone for the season.
