In other breaking news, Brian Kelly is confirmed to be an ass. To hell with Notre Dame.

I want Sparty to beat ND

we have to win the B1G to go to the playoff - and B1G teams losing non-conference games does not help us in any way

giving ND a 2nd loss does help us - means as a 1 loss B1G champ we're ahead of them

OSU over OU helps hurt the Big 12 too

Texas needs to shore up its defense, but it looks like they're on the right track. Credit to Strong for seeing that he had to adjust his offense. And credit to the players for staying invested in the program.

I view Michigan State vs. Notre Dame as a complete win-win.

If ND wins, it will be delicious to witness the Spartan reaction.

However, if MSU wins, Michigan is one game closer to being the undisputed all time winningest program once again (I believe we would only need 2 games more, assuming we beat UCF and Colorado). Also, Notre Dame would have a losing record on September 18th (Irish meltdowns are the best). And, our strength of schedule is better off. And, most importantly, defeating the Spartans would be even better on October 29th.

I'll be happy no matter the outcome. I'm excited.

It's funny, because I always feel "win-win" about ND-MSU, but I always feel "lose-lose" about OSU vs. MSU. I hate watching that last game.

Credit to Charlie Strong. Many were wondering if he would be fired last season. Now people are chanting his name.

This is a race, right? Texas will need a serious run of disaster to fire Strong now; this is a huge sign that they're on the right track. Offhand the only performance of a coach that's on the road to getting fired that has impressed me more was Tom Coughlin with the Giants, who won a Super Bowl in each of two seasons in which he was almost finished. Suddenly Texas may have the right formula. In contrast, Les Miles is already in win-to-save-his-job mode after one game. He might get fired for any loss before the Bama game now. They'll have a massive head start on Herman.

He is a classy individual who inherited a toxic culture on the football team. It looks like he has finally cleaned house and built a better team. I think Herman is staying at Houston as it looks like Houston backers will match any offer made by other schools. They want to return to the old glory days of Houston football. Yes, I am old enough to remember when Houston was a football powerhouse. I think Texas is the only school that has enough clout to hire him away from Houston.

Of course, you have to be careful about attaching too much importance to an early-season win over ND.  Our last two head coaches managed to each gain a pair of "signature wins" against ND teams that ended up being mediocre.

In the '97 Game, OSU blocked one of our PATs and Andy Katzenmoyer nearly returned it the distance, but we brought him down around our 10-yard line.
