Another way of looking at it: U-T stabilizes and has its pick of top in-state talent; meaning, Texas talent is not enrolling at OSU, Alabama, Oregon, USC, etc. One program controlling the spigot for top-talent in Texas - instead of several - is better for us, in my book. Having a top coach ourselves, that advantage is somewhat leveled; and it forces other programs to develop their own state talent, which is harder to do, and again better for us.

I'm happy to take the 3rd, 4th, and 5th best Texas guys, while getting the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best MI guys, etc., and have them all coached by Harbaugh, et al. Let Strong coach the TX 1s and 2s at TX; and we'll beat them with everybody else.

Recruiting in Texas is massively competitive whether Texas is doing well or not.  All the SEC and Big 12 schools recruit there, among a host of others.  Baylor and TCU have pretty well soaked up a lot of guys who would have gone to Texas in better days for U-T.   Plus, as far as us going down there, we have the weather and distance challenges.  And I don't ever remember a top player from up here committing to Texas.

There was rumors about Harbaugh leaving the Niners two years ago (after they tried to trade him to the Browns). Texas fans thought they could land him if he wanted to go back to college. Thankfully... everything worked out perfectly for us in the end.

Even if the fans are patient, you have to find a new AD without much of an ego to give Strong (and Smart) a real shot. Easier said that done.

When I think back to that 2010 season and what we know about Brandon now, I think even if that campaign went quite a bit better than it did that DB still would have pulled the trigger because his ego wouldn't let him go long without having his own hire in there.

No real big reason.  Mostly schadenfreude to see another historical blue blood fall on hard times.  Misery likes company.  But you could make an argument that it helps UM's recruiting if UT is down considering the national focus Harbaugh is taking on recruiting.  I would also like a little more room between UM and UT in all time wins.
