Patriots lose at home to Tennessee - season over

Submitted by Indy Pete - Go Blue on January 4th, 2020 at 11:18 PM

The Patriots lost their lost two games of the season at home to Miami and Tennessee (quarterbacked by former Dolphin Ryan Tannenhill). That was a brutal end to the season. Many pundits will be calling this the end of an era. Is it over? Bet against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick next year at your own risk...

Yes, but no need to dwell on ridiculous technicalities... down 7 with a pending two point conversion and 8 seconds, yeah - that one was/is over. Hopefully Tom’s career does not end here. But if it does, people will quickly  forget this is how it ended and they will focus on the six Super Bowl rings of the ?.

Brady is 42. If this isn't the end of an era, it's getting pretty damn close. I hope Belichick sticks around a little while longer after Brady retires, just out of curiosity.

Unless Brady goes back to 5 years and they get some WR and TE help, it will be easy to bet against them next year just like it was the second half of this year.

No weapons, easy to pick against them this week, especially if you had watched the last 6-7 weeks. Not a good team. Brady needs more weapons to stick with it.

This was the most predictable upset I’ve seen in a while. Pats haven’t been “good” in at least two months now. I was curious to see if they’d have some playoff magic but it’s clear the team just isn’t very good.

If Brady is a free agent... the Lions might go after him and trade Stafford for some weapons and defense? Just a thought. Probably very wishful thinking.

KC and the Ravens are probably the best in the AFC. The Titans are a fairly balanced team with a good RB and a decent D. I would not be surprised if they give Baltimore a tough game. I hated how the Bills just folded in the 2nd half. I was hoping they would win. The Pats may sign Brady for a couple more years since Brady said he would like to retire when he turns 45. He will be 43 this August (yikes, this makes me feel really old), so he could be a good QB for 2 more seasons. I guess you would now consider Brady as an old G.O.A.T.

Honestly, I didn't think Brady looked that bad. Definitely not at his peak anymore, but he was making fine decisions most of the time. Receivers had zero separation and Michel has been awful. Once they got stuffed 3 times at the 1 yard line, you just knew it would be a struggle for yards all night long. Henry was a total beast and put the Titans on his back.

If he's still playing on the Pats next year, he's gonna need a lot more help if they want to win the Super Bowl. It's clear that he's physically outmatched by all the great young QBs in the league right now, but I think he still has good enough decision making that he can get by regardless if he has the weapons.

If Tom Brady played his last game for the Patriots, I suggest we hold a moment of silence for all the Michigan fans (including several MGoBloggers) who bandwagoned onto the Patriots...

They'll probably be entering the NFL Fan Transfer Portal in search of a new team to root for.

You evidently think it’s weird for Michigan fans to root for the NFL teams that Michigan guys play for.

Why? I can understand rooting for whatever your own favorite NFL team is against Brady and the Pats or against Woodson and the Packers, but don’t you enjoy in general seeing UM players doing well on good NFL teams?

@Don

It's one thing to root for Michigan players to do well in the NFL or root against them if they're playing against your favorite NFL team of choice.

It's another thing to bandwagon on to a franchise when they start winning Super Bowls and the excuse is "the team is QB'd by a former Michigan QB" - a QB many Michigan fans didn't like when he was here because they wanted the shiny brand new 5 star QB Drew Henson to start and play.

Not 1-to-1 comparison but it's kinda like how Ohio State fans will claim any success Joe Burrow will have in the NFL as a positive for Ohio State even though they wanted Haskins over him and, prior to the start of the 2019 season, wouldn't have taken him over Justin Fields.

I didn't realize my post would get some people butthurt...

If someone was a Patriots fan before Brady, then cool.

If someone became a Patriots fans when Brady started becoming a superstar and started winning Super Bowls, then it'll be interesting to see if those individuals (and others like this type) stay Patriots fans when Brady's time is up and Patriots inevitably fall back to mediocrity. My guess? No. Why? Bandwagons gonna bandwagon.

My issue is with the shameless Michigan fans - many of whom didn't like Brady when he was here at Michigan - jumping on his (and the Patriots) bandwagon when they started having stratospheric success. Then they started claiming he was a tremendous ambassador for Michigan which they didn't give two f***s about when he was playing at Michigan because they never anticipated him becoming what he is today.

Honestly the most “butthurt” person here is you, hurt apparently by all the people who like the wrong team for reasons you don’t approve of. Did Bill Belichick kick your dog or something? (Or more likely you’re just a Steelers fan or something)

The Lions suck, Brady played for Michigan before I knew enough about football to be following individual players, let alone have a dog in the Brady v Henson debate, and now I live in AZ so not only do I have no real connection to the “local” team but they also suck. So sue the hell out of me if I like seeing Brady win and, all else being equal, will pull for the Patriots over most other teams.

I love watching other Michigan players do well too (Woodson, Graham, etc) but it is tougher to be a “fan” of a team for a role player vs a QB. So Brady and the Pats it is.

Good. Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick are scum bags all the way. Tom Brady is joined at the hip with those assholes and he never misses an opportunity to talk about how much he loves them and how they're all a family, etc... I loved Brady when he was a Wolverine, but screw the franchise that he has embraced for 2 decades and which has defined his entire professional career.
