Passover/Easter Open Thread
Happy Passover and/or Easter to all who celebrate!
Interested to hear what everyone has planned.
As an MGoJew, we are at heightened alert for Passover.
Hosting 14 people tonight for the first Seder. This includes a handful of current Michigan students...plus a few family members.
The chicken broth and matzo balls were prepared and frozen this past weekend. Stage 1 of the brisket-cooking process has been completed...and it'll hit the oven again around 4PM today. Everything else is being deployed for what will hopefully be a meaningful and joyous celebration.
Wishing everyone an A-Maize-Ing holiday with family and friends!
(in this spirit, I would appreciate keeping this thread free of judgment and/or any negative views re: religion or religious observance)
My father-in-law always started the questions: "How long's this gonna take?"
On the resurrection of the greatest figure in the history of all mankind I will be at work. HE is Risen.
He is Risen indeed, Hallelujah!
Hoping one and all enjoy the holiday with friends and family….
Good Friday and Easter Sunday masses for me and the family along with preparing for a massive multi-family Easter dinner at the house.
I hope all of you have a terrific Easter/Passover/Ramadan, and celebrate all that comes with it in your own special way!
I've been in my fair share of seders, and play the wise man a time or 2. T'was fun!
Let my people go!
My son, who is going to school in MN to be a minister, will be celebrating Jesus' resurrection with my family who live there (my parents, daughter and husband, brothers/sisters and spouses and all their kids - probably 30 people total). Another daughter is coming home Friday, so it'll be just 4 of us for Easter, the smallest Easter gathering we've had in 22 years or so. I'm not sure if we're coloring eggs or not, since the older is 26 and the younger is 16.
We bought a whole pig 18 months ago and were supposed to have a 20 lb ham that was saved for this year. With just 4 of us, that won't happen. Instead, we're pulling out the last of the ham steaks. Throw in some cherry sauce, cheesy potatoes, homemade rolls and, of course, pie, and I'll rolling down the stairs to the basement couch afterwards for a nap.
I'll be in Grand Rapids at my sister's, who wanted to host Easter this year. It's the first one since the loss of our Mom, so I'm thinking that emotions will be on heightened alert this year.
The night before, the MGoGirlfriend and I will celebrate our annual Easter tradition: drinking much wine while watching "The Ten Commandments" and making snarky comments about the bad casting and the over-acting. (You have to take a drink every time Anne Baxter proclaims "Oh Moses! Moses!")
Passover/Easter are both awesome and frightening .Being on the right side of the blood of the sacrifice is awesome, with complete protection. Being on the wrong side is frightening, with no protection.
Happy Pesach OP! I hope your family and others who chimed in enjoy a joyous and meaningful first Seder.
As for us, our youngest is serving as an Acolyte on Maundy Thursday, I’m a Lay Reader at the Easter Vigil on Saturday. We’ll have our freshman MGoEngineer home for the weekend and enjoy brunch in the D on Sunday followed with dinner at home with close family and friends.
Passover is also celebrated by Big Ten fans and mostly Michigan fans as the day MSU football gets passed over by a bowl selection committee for a team with a worse record but a better program with a national draw.
This past season they robbed us of the suspense.
So some religion?
I just reread the message board faqs and religion is no longer disallowed.
So you can get your sweet butts that we will be celebrating all religious holidays....from all religions.
As long as the non-religious keep quiet.
