I just don't get the design inspiration.  Is it supposed to harken to something in Michigan's football tradition, or is it just a random look that somebody thought was cool and contemporary?

Also, I wonder what it would look like if the wings/stripes were also matte. At least they didn't suffer a glitter explosion like:

or

And I'm glad they're not anything like:

with "at least it's not this..., or this..." is every time a change is made you get closer to finally accepting a Michigan helmet with wings on one side and a wolverine busting out of block M on the other.

Not a fan of those uniforms at all, but I've always despised our move from maize to electric yellow.  I'm surprised more traditionalists don't complain about the very fundamental problem of Michigan no longer wearing its true colors anymore...new uniform design or not.

Looks cool to me. It's too bad that Brandon stomped puppies and put them through a blender, then made a polyester-blend fabric out of the blended puppies in order to make these uniforms. That evil bastard. Next thing you know he's going to outlaw football and outsource the team to China...

Not for sure what to think of the jersey, yet. Do love the Helmet I've always wanted us to try the matte blue. Everyone just needs to embrace it, because it's going to happen

I love this new uniform.  Admit it, Michigan's current road uniform is too boring.  UM's school colors are maize and blue, not maize and white.  The current road uniforms have too much white, and lack enough blue.  This Outback uniform has the correct amount of blue, yellow and white.  I will buy this jersey, which is of course why Dave Brandon had these made in the first place  That's ok. I like it, so I am gonna buy it.

What I wish I could really buy is a short-sleeve Michigan t-shirt that has a different color on the sleeves than on the main body of the t-shirt.  Those are impossible to find!

But I like them. I actually think we have to change things up once in a while on special occasions. This is the type of thing that sells to recruits. Screw all the old codger traditionalists that are whining. They can stare and marvel at the traditional uni's the other 11 games a year.

So we're only doing alternate uniforms once a year?!  That's awesome.  Thanks for this welcome breaking news.  I had no idea the Brandon was making a drastic departure from his traditional practice of using alternate uniformz at least 3 times a year.

In 2011 Michigan wore:

Normal Home

UTL

"New" Road

"Old" road

Bumblebee

Sugarbowl

That's 6 jerseys in 13 games.

2012:

Cowboy Classic

Normal Home

"Old" road

Outback bowl.

By my count, in Michigan's last 25 games they will have worn 8 different jerseys. Or a different one every THREE games. That's just stupid.

It's the cost of progress in the modern college athletics era, gentlemen.

More UNIFORMZ! = more $$ and more $$ = more state-of-the-art facilities needed to compete with other programs

This argument makes me want to throw up - it's repeated ad nauseum and reflects a complete failure to engage in critical thought. It is a bullshit talking point that makes no sense, especially with regard to Michigan. We are the motherfucking Joneses in terms of facilities and every other damn structural advantage. We do not need more monetizing, future-creating dreck.

So sick of this crap.  I'm not an old dude, so it looks like I'm gonna have to be sick of this crap for a long time.  Or at least until DB GETS THE HELL OFF MY LAWN.

I can hear it now.... watching the game with my 5 year old son.... "Where's Michigan, Dad?"

I could care less what jersey they wear as long as they win Michigan will look great in anything. It doesnt matter what you look like only the final score is important.

tired of watching the clown show that college football fashion has become.

You are Michigan fer'godsakes, quit trying to look like some school who thinks they're Michigan.

As a current student, I really like these! They look good, and the team is excited about playing in them. Hopefully our boys make some good memories wearing these jerseys!

I'm going to start with saying I feel like I have used up a huge chunk of my outrage, and I just can't afford to get all bent out of shape about the jersey thing anymore. I agree with the whole "This is Michigan" sentiment and all that, but I feel like I am trying to punch through a steel wall when I get all upset, so I guess I am going to try to critique these from an "oh, well" stand point.

The numbers are too big and gaudy. These would actually look pretty slick if the numbers were just a flat blue or maize that matched the shoulders and slightly smaller. Otherwise, I don't hate it. It's not as tacky as the Alabama maize shoulders. If they're going to do these, they could make them look sleeker and not so gaudy, but I guess that's the opposite of what they are trying to achieve.

Regarding the helmet, I actually think the flat looks pretty cool. I don't know if changing the paint/finish really constitutes messing with tradition, but that's debatable. My only concern is that it's a step toward doing something outrageous (i.e. ND or MSU) like some posters demonstrated above.
