"Football will still be football."
That would be nice. Unfortunately, it's becoming NASCAR with a side order of NBA fan experience!!!

Please excuse me. I'm going to go vomit.

I just don't get the design inspiration. Is it supposed to harken to something in Michigan's football tradition, or is it just a random look that somebody thought was cool and contemporary?
Also, I wonder what it would look like if the wings/stripes were also matte. At least they didn't suffer a glitter explosion like:
or
And I'm glad they're not anything like:
December 18th, 2012 at 12:16 PM ^
with "at least it's not this..., or this..." is every time a change is made you get closer to finally accepting a Michigan helmet with wings on one side and a wolverine busting out of block M on the other.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:45 PM ^
If they stuck with the brushed gold for 100% of the helmet then they would be pretty sweet. Alas, they have to showcase their made up Irish heritage.

LOVE the helmets.
Jersey would be better with blue numbers, that's my main complaint

Adidas would fuck up a one car funeral.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:03 PM ^
Not a fan of those uniforms at all, but I've always despised our move from maize to electric yellow. I'm surprised more traditionalists don't complain about the very fundamental problem of Michigan no longer wearing its true colors anymore...new uniform design or not.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:03 PM ^
Looks cool to me. It's too bad that Brandon stomped puppies and put them through a blender, then made a polyester-blend fabric out of the blended puppies in order to make these uniforms. That evil bastard. Next thing you know he's going to outlaw football and outsource the team to China...

Matte helmets are a cool concept. And at least they are doing the M on the sleeve, trending back toward these I hope:
December 18th, 2012 at 12:05 PM ^
Not for sure what to think of the jersey, yet. Do love the Helmet I've always wanted us to try the matte blue. Everyone just needs to embrace it, because it's going to happen
December 18th, 2012 at 12:06 PM ^
I love this new uniform. Admit it, Michigan's current road uniform is too boring. UM's school colors are maize and blue, not maize and white. The current road uniforms have too much white, and lack enough blue. This Outback uniform has the correct amount of blue, yellow and white. I will buy this jersey, which is of course why Dave Brandon had these made in the first place That's ok. I like it, so I am gonna buy it.
What I wish I could really buy is a short-sleeve Michigan t-shirt that has a different color on the sleeves than on the main body of the t-shirt. Those are impossible to find!

Quote from Denard.
Case closed. He loves them. I'm sure most of the rest of the team does, too. End of story.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:11 PM ^
You actually think a team member would say they hated them if they did? Not gonna happen, let alone the leader of the team.

If the team loved black jerseys with red helmets, just for a change, would you be on board with it then?

So we're only doing alternate uniforms once a year?! That's awesome. Thanks for this welcome breaking news. I had no idea the Brandon was making a drastic departure from his traditional practice of using alternate uniformz at least 3 times a year.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:52 PM ^
In 2011 Michigan wore:
Normal Home
UTL
"New" Road
"Old" road
Bumblebee
Sugarbowl
That's 6 jerseys in 13 games.
2012:
Cowboy Classic
Normal Home
"Old" road
Outback bowl.
By my count, in Michigan's last 25 games they will have worn 8 different jerseys. Or a different one every THREE games. That's just stupid.

Awful, kill it all, darkness, sadness, pain, synergy...
December 18th, 2012 at 12:08 PM ^
I'll like these a lot more if we beat South Carolina in them.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:15 PM ^
And our loss to Bama is the leading reason why people dislike the Cowboys Classic jerseys (which I personally love). Hopefully we get good memories out of these ones.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:21 PM ^
I'd dispute that being the leading cause for hating them. Close second though.

It's the cost of progress in the modern college athletics era, gentlemen.
More UNIFORMZ! = more $$ and more $$ = more state-of-the-art facilities needed to compete with other programs

December 18th, 2012 at 12:43 PM ^
Totally agree re: the helmets. I'm not a huge fan of the jersey, but those helmets look pretty cool to me.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:09 PM ^
So sick of this crap. I'm not an old dude, so it looks like I'm gonna have to be sick of this crap for a long time. Or at least until DB GETS THE HELL OFF MY LAWN.
I can hear it now.... watching the game with my 5 year old son.... "Where's Michigan, Dad?"
December 18th, 2012 at 12:10 PM ^
I could care less what jersey they wear as long as they win Michigan will look great in anything. It doesnt matter what you look like only the final score is important.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:12 PM ^
They would look much better with blue numbers.
I kinda like the helmets.

tired of watching the clown show that college football fashion has become.
You are Michigan fer'godsakes, quit trying to look like some school who thinks they're Michigan.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:12 PM ^
Maize numbers are a horrible idea. So is a blue yoke. So is any change whatsoever to the helmet. And I kinda liked the Bama unis.
Get off my lawn.
December 18th, 2012 at 12:13 PM ^
As a current student, I really like these! They look good, and the team is excited about playing in them. Hopefully our boys make some good memories wearing these jerseys!

Quit using so many damn exclamation points, you sound like a damn sissy. I agree with the man above me, this post is obviously Dave Brandon's doing.

December 18th, 2012 at 12:14 PM ^
I'm going to start with saying I feel like I have used up a huge chunk of my outrage, and I just can't afford to get all bent out of shape about the jersey thing anymore. I agree with the whole "This is Michigan" sentiment and all that, but I feel like I am trying to punch through a steel wall when I get all upset, so I guess I am going to try to critique these from an "oh, well" stand point.
The numbers are too big and gaudy. These would actually look pretty slick if the numbers were just a flat blue or maize that matched the shoulders and slightly smaller. Otherwise, I don't hate it. It's not as tacky as the Alabama maize shoulders. If they're going to do these, they could make them look sleeker and not so gaudy, but I guess that's the opposite of what they are trying to achieve.
Regarding the helmet, I actually think the flat looks pretty cool. I don't know if changing the paint/finish really constitutes messing with tradition, but that's debatable. My only concern is that it's a step toward doing something outrageous (i.e. ND or MSU) like some posters demonstrated above.
