Our most important game is our next game

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The osu football twitter account tweeted some garbage along the lines of "100 days until the most important game" with their juvenile X-ing out letters.

So @umichfootball shot them back.

Everyone so worried about playing us, instead of focusing on their first game. First MSU, now the Buckeyes https://t.co/tIEIeZ3OQN

Perhaps not, but the worst things have happened to us. I know no one has forgotten 2007. I think Harbaugh knows young men can easily phone it in on lesser opponents. That's why he preaches focusing on getting better every day. I think everyone knows OSU means more to him than Hawaii(the post game presser after OSU is a good example)

I guess it's a semantics thing. Does beating OSU feel better than beating Hawaii? You better believe it. But you focus on the task ahead of you so The Game means that much more at the end of the season.

I'm obsessed with wanting to be the best. That requires winning more than just that one game.

No doubt The Game is the biggest must win game every single year.

Most important game changes every week.

Stop trying to sound like Harbaugh. You are not a coach. With this staff and the players they are bringing in, we won't be losing to scrubs any longer. Extra focus needs to be on OSU every week. Hell, every day of the year. We are sick of losing to OSU and seeing them in the spotlight every fucking year. We need to focus even more on beating them.

I'm not trying to, dingo.

One game season has never been a thing here. I'm not interested in going 9-3 or 8-4 with a win being against osu like we did in the 90s.

That's how I look at games. One at a time.

Importance of MSU/OSU wins

Of course all games are important to win. That's a given. All else equal, however, the MSU and OSU games are more important to win than any other game on our schedule: (1) B1G rivals matter - ask John Cooper; (2) SOS matters and they are expected to be the highest ranked teams we face; (3) if we lose to a couple lesser ranked teams (say Iowa and Wisconsin) but beat both MSU/OSU, we will be in better position to win the B1G championship.

The OSU tweet didn't say anything about "most important". It just said 100 days til the game. Mark your calendars. With x's instead of m's of course

Yes, but the important part is whether or not you are prepared, WD. The team can't afford a moment of you not focusing. The football team might lose if you don't focus.

There are certainly times that I would trade all of the wins of the past decade so long as we beat osu every year. I hate them that much. Maybe it's having to live in Ohio and surrounded by all of those cooler poopers

We are not the most important game. We are THE GAME. You don't qualify THE GAME. Buckeyes know that and treated THE GAME appropriately. There. All better now.

I might be in the minority, but I'm not the biggest fan of our coach and other associated accounts always immediately clapping back at any little comment. Didn't think Harbaugh should have given Rome the time of day or attention he was clearly fishing for either. Im all for a well-timed tweetburn, but I would hate to become the college football version of another person always in the media who can never resist reacting.

All I can say to that is "oh well, this is what we signed up for when we got Harbaugh."

Harbaugh is not going to be nice and play it safe like Hoke did. When someone gives this program shit, he's going to respond. Sure, some of the things he says are a little childish, but if that's the price of winning games, then to hell with it.

Would you rather go with the alternative with Hoke, who never crossed anyone but lost any game that mattered?

You make it seem so black and white, when in reality the majority of coaches are somewhere in between the two extremes. Most coaches aren't overly apologetic (especially to rivals), and most don't use Twitter to constantly fire back at any slight or criticism (espcially if it comes from a shock jock radio douche).

But I don't think any of us will really care about this stuff if Harbaugh can start beating MSU and OSU.

Exactly. Which is what I said. I don't mind the smart, planned snark...  but constantly firing back at losers who want attention (Rome), etc is childish, even our local media picked up on that. We all knew the confident kid in high school everyone wanted to be. We also knew the overconfident obnoxious kid you couldn't wait to shut up. I like proving it on the field.

It's truly amazing how everybody's all "we need toughness, f*ck Ohio *growl* rah rah this is FOOTBALL" then get all nervous because a little bit of shit talking. Never fails. Whether it's preseason hype, Twitter jabs, bulletin board material before the game, etc., people start curling into fetal talking about how they suddenly dont feel so good around here. The game will be played regardless and the result is not dependent upon how much you didnt say prior to it.

Personally, Harbaugh is a breath of fresh air for me. I also like Bielema for the same reason. We were all taught as kids that if somebody hits you to hit back. Everybody hates coachspeak until there isn't any. I wish all coaches/players could say the things they really want to say. I couldn't care less for the fake respect.

I would venture to say that osu's most important game is OU.... Unless they run the table in the B1G, they won't go to the playoff without beating OU.

I love the thread from the other day where the dude was saying it is called "The Ohio State University.  Why don't you call them that?" I think the board should completely adopt this and from now one everyone refer to them as TOSU.  Then no one will know who the hell we're talking about. And the fact they only know 25 letters in the alphabet will save them a little face.  /Also trying to help a brother out.
