It sucks to hear (and I'm sure there's some credence to it) but recruits tend to talk up "relationships" and "family" when committing to a program, so that's not a huge shock.  Look at a bunch of UM commits and they speak highly about the recruitment process and the bonds they've made at UM.

And yeah, when people say "relationships" they're probably talking about both personal and financial and UM is lagging a bit in the latter.

Precisely.  "Relationship" has come to mean something new since 2021.  Three finalists for Cook: Michigan, Texas and Oregon.

Does anyone really believe that a 5 star WR has UM in his final 3 but didn't have a good relationship with UM?  He said UM was just the same ol' recruiting pitch. But Texas and Oregon built relationships.  Gee, what do you think the difference is between UM's pitch and that of Oregon and Texas?

Great point. The question is, do we want to compete with Texas and Oregon in the future (and Ohio State) or do we want to go the way of Northwestern, or even Chicago. Sign me up for the former.

The fact that we're in the top 3 does make me think this staff is on to something...but it's not good enough at the moment. They need to change with the times. They need to be better.

Yeah it shows that we can compete with anybody....when we're not handcuffed and behind the times in 1 major factor currently affecting recruit$.

Like you said, you can compete with Oregon/Texas/Ohio freakin State if you just play ball like everyone else.  Or we can go the way of U of Chicago while watching 20 year old highlight videos of when the program really cared about staying competitive.

I am so sick of the people who view the current status quo as acceptable. Bottom of the barrel '23 class, Moore all but gone, top recruits trending away. The level of complacency is insane and so is the need to down vote anyone who says that this is unacceptable. There needs to be a serious reckoning inside the Michigan recruiting department and coaching staff.

You show em!!!  Your sickness and willingness to express it should just change the whole complexion of recruiting.  The other day they said,"Harbaugh" hasn't done enough to sway Moore!  I will tell you this.  Kids will say anything about other schools when they GET THE BAG from the school their with!!!  He should talk about Michigan.  It's a game.

No, but if we can calm down a little bit... osu has been riding high for 2 decades. They just went out and beilein'd it, but getting a great DC because we ran over them like the turkeys they are.

We had the best season we've had in 25 years, and everyone either left or wanted to leave, and instead of harbaugh bringing in beast OC and DCs, and great recruiters.. he prolonged things by dancing around with the NFL, leaving us trying to pick up the pieces.. and ending up with a couple of dudes, but not Dudes.

So, to be fair, we've lost a lot of good recruiters in recent years, and our coordinators seem to come and go, and other than macdonald, we arent raising the game.

I agree, though I would trade one bad recruiting season in return for our 2022 year 10 times out of 10, and honestly, I'm stunned at the amount of apoplexy here. (Or I would be, if it weren't commenters on the Internet).

If this happens two years in a row, it's a problem. If it happens three years in a row, a crisis. But one disappointing off-season and people are immediately demanding heads roll ... after that year? I mean, this is so classic -- people who somehow pay more attention to recruiting than they actually do to on-the-field results. It's the games that matter, surely, no?

Give me a break.

I'm not telling you to NOT panic about a game played by college kids. it's your right as a free american.

personally, for me, getting that emotionally involved in something that has no effect on your actual real life is a massive waste of time and energy that is much better spent on things that make you happy. particularly when you have zero control over it.

but yea, keep getting worked up over the decisions of children who play sports. you do you.

jesus dude, i hope this is in jest.

if not, i think you take a game played by college kids way too seriously dude. maybe take a break from the blog and sports news for a bit. step back and prioritize what is truly important in life?

just a suggestion ... feel free to ignore and go on with the insane ramblings idc

"Maybe take a break from the blog and sports news for a bit. step back and prioritize what is truly important in life?"

Not bad advice at all until you realize the alternative to geeking on sports is geeking on Putin, January 6, the Supreme Court, inflation, climate change, etcetera etcetera. While these issues actually matter (compared to the sandbox that is sports) they are, in fact, even more depressing. Me? I'm checking Zillow for a residence in remote Newfoundland.

or, now hear me out, don't pay attention to that shit and don't dwell on it. it's not mandatory to do so.

for example, i spend my free time with family and doing things I enjoy. i don't watch the news. i don't subscribe to news apps on my phone. i generally learn about things in passing at work. i didn't find out about the ukraine-russia thing until like 3 days after it started. i didn't find out about roe v wade being overturned until the weekend and my brother texted me about it.

i live a very happy life because i focus on my family, friends, neighbors and myself. my mental health is phenomenal focusing on the positive in my life instead of what i don't have or things i can't control (which basically covers everything you mentioned).

it almost sounds like you're going around looking for things to be upset about.

The status quo complaining from fans like you is pretty tedious. I’m glad you agree.

If you think any serious fan is satisfied with average classes, you’re delusional. If you expect every fan, at the start of summer, to cry about a winter recruiting class like a newborn cries about shitting itself—that’s on you.

Every time one of these kids chooses somewhere else, you folks pout. The kid chose being ear home and playing with the number 1 QB in his class, a Manning. Texas and Texas AM are paying a bunch for teens who focus a lot on getting paid before they do squat as players. Good for them.

If Michigan competes again like they did last year, more recruits will feel at home in A2, knowing that NIL money comes north for those who win.

Any kid who won’t come to A2 because of money is a kid who is afraid he isn’t going to do anything in college enough to earn NIL bags. I’d rather have players who earn their NIL money like Corum. You want them to pay kids based on camp ratings and don’t see how that kind of prima donna shit impacts team chemistry and team play.

It's a data point -- something to consider and not disregard. Hopefully there is more to our pitch, and parts were lost on this particular 17- or 18-year-old. Which would not be a knock on him.
