Guess we should've scheduled that return game to Eugene for basketball this season after all. Gonna be a weird year...

I must be missing something really obvious, but just curious: why does everyone want Oregon to lose? Not being snarky. Its a legitimate question.

I don't really think they're standing in the way of Michigan making the CFP if Michigan handles business in its next two (possibly three) games. If Michigan manages to win the next two games, make it to Indy and win, they're in. Absolutely no way they'd be left out if the only blemish on their resume is a four point loss on the road to a top-10 team where even the CFP committee believes they should've won and are still the better team. I feel like OSU would have to worry more about Oregon winning out since Oregon owns the head to head tiebreaker.

I'd also rather Oregon win out because if Michigan trips up against OSU and ends up going to the Rose Bowl, they'd likely face that Oregon team if Oregon trips up somewhere as well. They could win, but they'd likely be underdogs. Or, if Oregon wins out, Michigan would likely draw a much more winnable game against Utah.

I know, I know, if you want to be the best you've got to beat the best. But given Michigan's recent track record in bowl games, I'll take what I can get. Especially if it means you get to tag yourself as a Rose Bowl champion in the process.

Things get interesting if both UM and MSU win out. In that case, MSU goes to the B1G CG and UM potentially gets left out of the playoff. There is also the (unlikely) chance that UM wins the B1G and the committee leaves UGA, Bama, Oregon and Cincinnati ahead of them…although in that scenario I think Cincinnati gets left out. Either way, the more teams ahead of us that lose, the better our situation becomes.

As a BYU grad (in addition to UofM), I’m here to say this result was not just about Oregon laying an egg (which they did). BYU has a really good coach and talent is scaling up, as well. Looking forward to the next several years and the transition to Big 12.
