I don't think it's crazy to lament losing him from the staff, even if it's completely understandable for an analyst to jump at a DI HC opportunity.

It's also quite possible that he was instrumental in helping turn around the culture here. Lest anyone forget, there was major disfunction in the program ~2017 through 2020. There was toxicity, etc. Then Poggi came back on the staff and things turned around in a big way (correlation), plus you had things like that article attributing much of that to Poggi's influence (causation). The hope is that lessons and chemistry that Poggi helped instill were woven into the fiber of the program and will endure for a long time.

Michigan football has continued to ascend over the years. I think it's reasonable to believe that Jim Harbaugh and the people at Michigan are good at downloading what they can from the various parts and improving moving forward. That includes picking up things from Don Brown, Matt Weiss, Biff Poggi, etc. You don't have to keep Poggi around forever to reap the benefits of having had Poggi on staff.

Poopy.  The kid seemed to be doing quite well with a really good team, I'm sad to see this.  Hope the surgery and recovery go very - hope to see him on the field next season.

Good luck, Andrel!

Not sure why you're being negged here - false starts stop play immediately!

To the idiot that negged:  Offensive penalties, like a false start, stop the play immediately because the offense cannot be allowed to advance the ball through illegal play.  However, on a defensive penalty, like an offsides, play is allowed to continue because the defense's cheating ways may backfire if the offense hits a big play.  In which case, the penalty is declined.  But if the play fails, and the penalty accepted, it's 5 free yards anyway.

How many times do you go to a guy who keeps running wrong routes and dropping balls?  He had enough chances to showcase his skills/development in '22, but unfortunately, he regressed.  I would argue that his performance against MSU '21 (which was outstanding) was the only highlight of his tenure at Michigan.

Great kid with potential, but sometimes things just don't work out for whatever reason.  And to put his demise squarely on Harbaugh is absolute nonsense.

Wish him well and speed recovery.

Yeah, Anthony basically had his own Ricky White game against MSU that set unrealistic expectations and also clouded everyone's assessment of him.

He's a good WR but he just got beat out by better players and while I'm happy he landed at OU and is successful he's not be some superstar at UM right now.  He'd be a 4th WR.

I wouldn't compare raw numbers between the two; OU throws the ball an average of 35 times a game while UM throws it 23 times a game.  Ricky White has almost the same number of receptions as Anthony and has played 1 game fewer, and that's mostly because he's the lead receiver for UNLV.

Anthony had lots of chances last year to be more of a player and struggled to do so.  He'd be behind Wilson and Johnson right now, and Morris seems like a more complete receiver and a guy with higher upside.

I have no ill will toward Anthony and am glad he's succeeding at OU before being injured but that MSU game may well be his career-defining performance and I think it set expectations way too high for a guy who has some skills but still struggles with drops a bit (he had one ball against Texas that he just bobbled) and isn't necessarily a burner.

Not just that, but he was frequently jammed into oblivion (Bolivia?). Not sure if it was Oklahoma's scheme that made a difference, a change of scenery that helped usher development, or just bad luck (i.e. he was headed for a breakout this year anyway, and unfortunately transferred such that it was OU that benefited instead of us), but while he may have had tons of potential, outside of that MSU game (which may have been as much about an un/under-scouted freshman taking advantage of an unprepared defense as anything), there wasn't much else from the past two years that would have predicted success this year...

I'm not going to rag on the guy too much but he seemingly dropped half the balls thrown to him.  Roman Wilson, Ronnie Bell, Cornelius Johnson, etc. all seem to get enough targets and catches to be happy.

I'm glad he's doing well at OU but he'd be the #4 WR on this team and that's just the deal.  Glad he found a home elsewhere.

I think I heard the commentator say in the game AA was in that WR blocking could be better. I could be making stuff up but I think that was the game. Regardless, UM expects WRs to block. In addition, UM had options that were good at blocking and route running. AA did well in deep throws. That was just not UM's game. So, may be it wasn't the best fit? Instead of blaming Harbaugh or AA, may be the circumstances dictated the effectiveness?

Based on past comments, it seems Juiceman has a personal relationship with Anthony, which is probably setting his narrative. I'm not taking a side here, but it seems naive to blame Harbaugh and just ignore all the drops, iffy routes, and bad blocking.

OU runs a wide open passing offense so it probably is a better fit for Anthony. It's unfortunate that he got hurt.

Also, without getting into too much detail, I do know that there was a major disconnect with Anthony and the new WR coach last year (Bellamy). For whatever reasons they just could not seem to click. The ability to get separation of the line and remembering the route tree were the major issues for his drop in playing time last year.

Sucks for him; he was having a nice season for the Sooners.  Hopefully he can recover and have a nice end of a career and then get a shot at the NFL.

I just saw this thread, so some of you may find it useful that I post a weekly update of former Michigan players and how they're doing at their new schools (LINK). I also include former commits.

It's always interesting to me to see how little former commits are doing at their chosen schools. Some turn out to do good things, but a lot of them fade away.
