OT: Yearly MGoAvatar Roll Call

Submitted by Blau on August 23rd, 2021 at 4:11 PM

As noted by LSA, the end of the OT period is on the horizon and frankly I've never been so ambivalent towards the beginning of the CFB season. I have no idea what to expect and BPONE-induced drinking seems likely going into Harbaugh's... --checks notes-- 7th year? We'll cheer, we'll cry and we might even get laid if that waitress at Shenanigans stops spurning my advances. All hope is not lost!

With that said, indulge the MGoWorld and let us know about your goofy, likely Michigan-themed avatar and why it "checks out".

I'll go first: Mine is David Wooderson and the gang from the film Dazed and Confused standing outside the Emporium. If you haven't seen the movie, it's a coming of age film based around the hijinks following the last day of school in a small (I believe Texas) town. Fun film and good soundtrack with the classic quotes you've all heard before. My avatar has no connection to my username or UM sports and just a random picture honestly.

What say you?

My username is Curly Howard as Heavyweight Champ in “Punch Drunks” (1934), the Three Stooges 2nd Columbia short. It’s preserved in the Library of Congress as culturally significant. He turns into a punching dynamo when Larry plays “Pop Goes the Weasel” on the violin (Larry could really play).

Avatar is General Specific, the antagonist animated character from “Sheep in the Big City”, from the early 00’s.  He speaks thru clenched teeth. I thought it was fitting. Other notable characters are Private Public, and Major Minor.

My username is pure lack of creativity.  Alum living in NC.

Avatar is from my younger days with a combination of the themed Absolute bottle ads and the Red Wings glory years.  It's tiny on this site but the bottle says Absolut Ownage.

Clarence Boddicker

Clarence Boddicker, Crime Boss of Old Detroit, about to make some snarky-ass remark because that's mostly what I do here. I chose it after going with something else for a while (Vermont Wolverine?) because Robocop was shot in Houston but set in Detroit, and Ann Arbor is, like, 40 miles from Detroit, which I did not know until I was enrolled. Perhaps because Michigan doesn't really publicize that. So, yeah, I'm honoring Detroit in my own special way. And Robocop is, of course, one of the best films of any kind ever made. And I will cut you if you disagree with that.

My avatar is a painting of the Michigan campus circa 1855, by a certain Jasper Francis Cropsey; image lifted from Wikipedia.

My pretentious username is somewhat connected to Sir John Falstaff, an iconoclast from some old plays. (Gee, I guess I've made him an icon.)

At the height of the Borat popularity I joined the board. I got put on a timeout for awhile and when I got back on I put Borat back on as my avatar. Timeless comedy and pretty much I post like I could be him in real life.

Here is to Great Success in 2021!

My avatar is Gert B. Frobe, I live in Silvertown.

Don't disagree with it or I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron. Hey, tell me, does your mother sew? BOOM. Get her to sew that!

Jack Shephard (played by Matthew Fox) from one of my favorite shows of all-time, LOST.

It was ending right around the time I picked it for this blog, and if Michigan ever wins a Big Ten title in football again, I will pick a new photo a clean shaven photo where he doesn't look so haggard.

Late Detroit-area news anchor Bill Bonds.

Avatar comes from this commentary on the eve of a 1980s matchup vs OSU (I'm pretty certain it's 1985, but can't confirm).

As a kid growing up in the 70s I always liked Bill Bonds, since I remember him as a reporter in the movie "Escape from the Planet of The Apes". He was an anchor in LA at the time but when he came to Detroit I remembered seeing him in this movie when I watched back in the early 70s when I was 8.

I think we used to have signatures on our profiles years ago, and I think mine was "I'm a street walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm."

This is someone's yearbook pic from Pioneer High School in about 1965. Later attended UM briefly before a storied career in entertainment.

Many believe that Dazed and Confused was based on Linklater’s Huntsville, Texas, high school.  He denies it.  There was a lawsuit over it. The suit was dismissed.  As a lawyer, who went to high school in Texas, I would consider it a badge of honor to have attended the high school depicted in Dazed and Confused!

My younger bro and I at the top of Winter Park on a bluebird ski day circa 2016 (I'm in the blue jacket). My bro (i.e., his wife) valued a good deal over proper choice of apparel color.

Username - we live in Fort Collins. Any Front Range/CO MgoBloggers (or any flying in for a ski week!), feel free to hit me up for a ski-day meet up - given enough notice, I'm generally up for any mountain within 3-4 hours. If you want to do Telluride, that'll take some planning :)
