OT: Wings sign Abdelkader to a too long deal

7 years, 4.25 per. Way too long, imo. Quite a discussion going on at wingingitinmotown.com

But 7 years from now?  Doesn't seem like it makes sense to tie up salary cap space down the road like that.

And while I appreciate Holland, it's fair game to doubt him.  Franzen over Hossa I can understand.  But he traded a first round pick to reacquire Kyle Quincey, who was not very impressive his first time here.  He traded for David Legwand.  He let Jiri Hudler leave and replaced him with Jordin Tootoo and some other free agent I cannot remember right now.  The Holland before the salary cap era was better.  I still think he's a good GM, but he's not above some questioning.

Holland did say he would prefer a shorter contract (but Abby would have wanted closer to $6 million). It was a back and forth and both sides can live with it but didn't get what they wanted. That's actually a good sign.

I really like Holland signing Blashill and keeping Granato.

Late first round picks aren't worth much. Quincey is an insurance guy in case Green and other Dmen go down. Clearly we have the least depth at defense. I think we are fine in net and up front once Richards (who will be a nice fit) and Pavel come back.

How about some love for getting Larkin? Best pick in the entire draft!

Also the kids from GR all seem to be very good prior picks and Holland didn't give away future stars like Mantha to get expensive rentals.

When Kenny misses the playoffs then you can question all you want... ; )

He's a heck of a guy if you have ever met him and his family.  He comes from a good home and he is a quality person that will not give you any off the ice issues.  You can question the Red WIngs decision, but I would hope nobody would question him personally.   Him going to Michigan State means nothing too me.  Go WIngs.

Go Blue...
