OT- what do you do when you travel for business?
or pay a $6 Uber to take you a few miles away. Free country.
must be the only ones. Then I read below that you have young kids?! Dude! Don't give up just yet! You have a lot of life ahead of you, ha.
And for the record, I actually try to avoid Uber on principle so I misspoke. I use Lyft if price is comparable.
Great city! My favorite area of town is probably Rice Village. Places like Local Foods and Crave Cupcakes are gems.
I've also found a few Mexican bakeries that are off the chain. One of them is in a depressed neighborhood, but ... WOW! ... the baked goods were incredible. I always have to grab some goodies for my wife before heading to the airport.
liked to conduct 'interviews' with escorts while on the road...many, many escorts
I will also look up old friends or college or law school classmates as well and go out to dinner with them. Life is all about experiences and relationships. For the love of god don’t spend it sitting in the room.
I will have to take your word on that.
There are actually moments where I kind of wish I had to travel extensively, but as I work for aregional utility, the biggest pain in the ass for me is a drive from my downriver hovel to Macomb County or - rarely - the thumb. I am a huge fan of exploring the local eats for lunch and dinner on those rare occasions though.
I’ve also been known to splurge if there is a local sporting event going on. Went to Boston for the first time last May. Caught a Sox game one night and Celtics playoff game the next.
I’m also a history buff, so I try to explore towns from the angle, especially when I’m on the east coast.
You hang the "change sheets" sign on the doorknob and wank yourself to sleep holding a picture of Beyonce. And Kanye and Kim. Then you claim "famous foursome!" And oversleep the free breakfast.
I kid, I kid.
sounds like a vacation. Good for you.
If you have even an acquaintance in the area look them up. Even if that person is busy you'll get some good tips. Likewise for a client you like, especially if it's one that won't make you be on all evening talking biz.
If you're a runner that's a great way to get to know a city and spot stuff to do later.
If there's nothing interesting going on I'll just go for a run for a mental break, order some room service and plug away at work to make things easier for when I return or the next trip.
It’s the perfect amount for me personally. It gives me a break from the office, allows me to see new places, and meet new people. Sometimes, I can extend the trip by a few days to do some sightseeing or have the wife join me for a mini vacation at half the cost.
Plus, it’s allowed me to rack up enough miles to pay for flights on my actual vacations!
while it is relaxing not to have to run after them and actually not get woken up during the night, I surprisingly miss them and hate that my wife has to shoulder a massive amount of work.
Definitely would prefer to not travel for work, but I make the most of it when I have to.
Being a big college sports fan, I always try to check out the local college town (there almost always is one) and get a feel for the campus vibe.
And check out the football stadium of course. Even post 9-11 you can often go in the stadiums. (Michigan is one of the worst about not letting you go in to the stadium.)
I've been to these out-of-the-way (for me) campuses on business trips, that I probably would not have been to otherwise:
USC, ASU, Stanford, Texas, Minnesota, Georgia, Clemson, S. Carolina, NC State, James Madison, Cincinnati, Pitt, Syracuse, Harvard, Yale, Brown.

of the Air Crash Investigations show! Some you remember the crash, but because the report comes out so much later you have forgotten the cause so it's like a real mystery.
I am traveling right now for work. Sadly, I am in a dry (no booze) Middle East country. So basically, instead of having a beer after work and chatting with other weary travelers about nonsense, which I love, I will sit in my hotel GOING FUCKING CRAZY...
Maybe I should have been clearer all these years while being insufferable on here... In my work life, which accounts for maybe 85-90% of my waking hours, I am very serious and boring. I come here to let all that sarcasm and cynicism that builds up all day flow from my body. :-D
What is the of the act of chewing Kif? I hope it's called "Kiffen," which would be awesome.
He's referring to khat.
Actually, Kif is a thing too. But khat is more popular here...
I know, but you don't chew kif.
that my calorie intake increases from about 2,500 calories a day to 468,000 calories a day.
Eating healthy while traveling is harder for sure...baked chicken and steamed veggies are usually special orders
Double that when you go back to HQ for sales meetings and the cookies and soda tray is siting there all day next to you, followed by team dinners and expected to drink heavy parties at night.
