OT - Weekly Friday Drinking Thread 8/27
Bourbon & Ginger.
Just poured the last drink out of a bottle of Maker's that I had since before the boycott (http://mgoblog.com/content/need-whiskey-boycott). Feels nice to rid that brand from behind the bar.
Cheers!

Today is 40s and Taco Bell night! Once a month, a group of professionals (all UofM alumni on the West Coast) get to pretend we're still in college for a few hours.
If only it were more often.

Ever hear of Edward 40-hands? I was the "winner" back in undergrad.
You duct tape a 40oz. to each hand and the first one to finish both without puking is the winner.
It takes more than a large stomache and a healthy tolerence. It also takes a hell of a bladder. It's all about timing. Try it sometime. It's fun.
August 27th, 2010 at 8:11 PM ^
Oh dear god, I just got 'nam style flashbacks from just hearing about that
August 28th, 2010 at 12:57 AM ^
Charlie on the wire!!
August 27th, 2010 at 8:23 PM ^
Yeah, we're actually doing Edward 40 Hands tonight...I bought the duct tape yesterday.
In my prime (college), we had escalated it to "Edward Funnel Face." It's about how it sounds, and usually ends badly.
August 27th, 2010 at 8:40 PM ^
Sure. I still maintain the best drinking game is "Drink Until You Fall Down."
August 28th, 2010 at 1:00 AM ^
Hey buddy, your clock won't flush.
August 28th, 2010 at 2:20 AM ^
You have the high score.
August 27th, 2010 at 9:01 PM ^
We do this while camping... Finding a "toilet" is easier in the woods! Kudos for the professionalization of the sport.

I was playing E40H once with a kid who got so angry that after he finished the 40s he went outside and smashed them off his hands on the corner of some concrete stairs.
Needless to say it was ugly.
I haven't played since. Not for that reason, just haven't had the opportunity or the volunteers.
August 27th, 2010 at 7:15 PM ^
Jameson on the rocks
August 27th, 2010 at 7:17 PM ^
Capt'n and Coke with a Crooked Tree IPA thrown in there as well.
August 27th, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
Dark Horse Brewing Company, Marshall, Michigan. Great stuff, but Centennial IPA from Founders is better (IMO). Cheers!
August 27th, 2010 at 7:19 PM ^
Just finished a long day of medical boards(8 hour exam), tonight is about quantity, not quality.
August 27th, 2010 at 7:21 PM ^
Congrats! Completion of boards deserves quality and quantity!
August 27th, 2010 at 7:30 PM ^
Job well done.
Quality before quantity is always a good decision.
Go Blue!
August 27th, 2010 at 8:11 PM ^

August 27th, 2010 at 9:40 PM ^

August 27th, 2010 at 7:31 PM ^

August 27th, 2010 at 7:25 PM ^
Enjoying a nice cigar with a burbon on the rocks. This HS football game is actually somewhat entertaining as well. Anyone else watching? Plant vs Manatee?
August 27th, 2010 at 7:26 PM ^
Sippin' on Magic Hat's new seasonal Hex. Love this style.
August 27th, 2010 at 7:27 PM ^
Has looked good early FWIW
August 27th, 2010 at 7:32 PM ^
A 1878 bottle of bordeaux and some aged gruyere, my fellow, but of course. My diploma says University of Michigan.
August 27th, 2010 at 7:42 PM ^
And a Cuban Davidoff Churchill (pre 1982).
While we're fantasizing...
August 27th, 2010 at 7:34 PM ^
Sam Adams Fall Mix-Pack....loving it.
August 27th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
with Papa John's and Coors Light. Later though it will be Grant's scotch and Vernors. Vernors rocks!!
August 27th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
Founders Centennial IPA. The price is right (free). A guy on my masters polo team works at Founders. Many a "over pour" end up in my hands after practice. Stay thirsty my friends.
August 27th, 2010 at 9:02 PM ^
I mentioned Centennial above also. Everything Founders makes is top shelf, but man there's a LOT of great breweries in Michigan...we're soooo lucky.
I'm trying to visit all 70+ Michigan breweries, but only made it to 52 so far (I think). It's gonna take some time to hit the ones in the UP...they're kinda spread out. Some of my favorite lesser-known places are Schmoz and Hideout (Grand Rapids), Waldorff (Hastings), Redwood Lodge (south of Flint), Quay Street (Port Huron), and Old Boyz Brew House (Spring Lake).
Right now I'm chugging IPA from my basement brewery. Not bad, but I won't be quitting my other job any time soon.
August 27th, 2010 at 10:35 PM ^
Hey, I'm glad someone NOT from the Grand Haven area knows about Old Boys! Great little brewery, and very underappreciated.
August 28th, 2010 at 10:49 AM ^
I will have to hit Hideout. 28 years in GR and never heard of that one... We are very lucky.
August 27th, 2010 at 8:00 PM ^
Bell's Oberon and the Meat Eater's Deluxe from Pizza Papalis. Will I feel like crap later for eating half of this pizza? Yes. Will it be worth it? Hell yes
August 27th, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
Tiger Woods and 40's. (old e, colt 45, steel reverve, ect) night goes on golf gets harder
August 27th, 2010 at 8:13 PM ^
I really didn't mean to get drunk (this early) tonight, but I had some *really* spicy Thai food and, well, the gin and tonic decided it would help.
August 27th, 2010 at 8:22 PM ^
White Russians and cigars tonight. Keeping it classy
August 27th, 2010 at 8:22 PM ^
But here's a shout-out by one of us who gave it up. Though if I went back in time, it would be 40s of Camo from Campus Corner in our apartment above the Guild House (next to Dominick's) during a Mario Kart battle royale on the SNES.
August 27th, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
Just had a few Bud Select 55's (trying to drop some weight) followed by a couple glasses of Wild Turkey 101 mixed with Vault Zero.
I had to stop though, I've got work in a little over a hour. Hooray nightshift at Wal-Mart! And I graduated from UM in April, so I guess I'm a Wal-Mart Wolverine! HAR HAR. Gotta love Michigan's economy (especially in the UP).
August 27th, 2010 at 9:54 PM ^
You just made me feel great about my beer situation and my career situation.
August 27th, 2010 at 8:41 PM ^
A quad of vodka tonics, moving on to a little Bailey's on the rocks to relax at home.
And if we lose another DB, some paint thinner on standby.
August 27th, 2010 at 8:45 PM ^
A Five Rivers Cabarnet Sauvingon to go along with my dinner that included fresh(ish) mozzarella. I don't care, it tastes good.
EDIT: Even better. The wine is made for women. Judge away Storrbags.
August 27th, 2010 at 9:04 PM ^
Homebrew and a lot of it. I had to have a HIDA scan to test my gallbladder... It verified the drinking-worthy-ness of my liver. Fuck the gallbladder; what's it good for? BEER!
August 27th, 2010 at 9:17 PM ^
Jager Bombs all the way.
August 27th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
Sierra Nevada was my undergrad school's unofficial beer (I went to college in central California, my UM degree came later), and it holds a dear place in my heart. Goose Island is a local Chicago beer, their IPA is decent, not great but probably the best thing at the "cut rate" liquor store on my block.
August 27th, 2010 at 10:06 PM ^
MFer!
August 27th, 2010 at 10:25 PM ^
It sucks when they tell you it's a diet coke, and it's really a diet pepsi. We can tell the difference, you knobs.
August 27th, 2010 at 10:49 PM ^
Chardonnay, 3 Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's, bitches. Beer on Saturday.
August 27th, 2010 at 11:21 PM ^
I think I'm gonna have a Dead Guy tonight and see where it goes from there.
I'm in Oregon and there is never a shortage of microbrews to try out here.
Beervana Baby!
