OT: watching Michigan games from abroad?

Submitted by Jon06 on

How are people who are abroad planning on watching Michigan football and basketball games this year? Bonus points for legal solutions even if they cost money.

Asking for a friend.

When I am overseas, I sign onto my company VPN which makes it appear as though I am on a US network.  I can then access my comcast account and stream games online from my regular TV provider.

I use it all the time in the US, it changes the IP in your browser so it looks like you're watching from whatever country you want to. I use it with netflix all the time because other countries get other shows. I watched better call saul on German Netflix the day new episodes were released here.

Thanks for posting this!

Just got setup on the network, though the stream is kind of choppy and slow, not much different from when I stream games on firstrowsports.  Any idea why that is the case?

Also, it appears that btn allows international streaming (if you subscribe to cable) and I don't have any issues with their streams, so I'l be using that option for games on btn.  Otherwise I'll probably stick to firstrowsports or go to an american bar/chain if I've got money to blow.

I didn't know UM provided a VPN. I'll have to look into that.

I've been using Private Internet Access for my VPN when I came to Armenia earlier this year. Works great (also highly recommend if you want to see what Netflix streams in different countries). I'll be using it (along with connecting to my brother's Comcast account) to watch the first month-plus of the season here before I head back to the States.

you can watch espn3 and btngo over internet. but you need two extra things

1. a friend or a relative in US whomhas subscription and will shre with you their password.

2 a vpn service within united states so that when you login, espn and btngo thunk that you are in US.

some basketball games on cbs seems to be free anyway on cbssports.

i did this two years ago when living in Hong Kong.

However Btn2go will work internationally for games that are on BTN, so no VPN is needed - at least where I was (Chile).

But ESPN/2/3 won't definitely won't work without a VPN.

Just be prepare for lots of frozen steams, etc.

I dont know how people manage to still use firstrow sports with all the popups/adware/spyware.

I miss Wiziwig.eu.

When I stayed in Plzen, I used something similar to this legally... http://www.espnplayer.com/espnplayer/help.jsp#SubFAQ1

Or I found a bar that showed ESPN Americas, which I think is now Sky Sports.

The best chance was ESPN Americas.

\It was Hoke's first year, and I think I saw every game with it or going the bar route.

For the smaller games, I had to resort to firstrowsports.eu

I was abroad for school for 3 years and never missed a football game.  Firstrowsports always has the games, sometimes the quality isn't the greatest, but it worked.

Live 16 time zones away so BTN2Go intl works well for me, even with the delay in when they can air the games not on BTN.

Have used slingbox in the past but pic quality is turrible.

Use HMA and can vouch for it. Great service. Cheap.

Would also recommend trying out simply streaming the radio broadcast for a change. For the cupcakes games this is a nice change of pace that I really enjoy.

Though I come from a family of several lawyers I myself am not one and I guess this would be a good example why. Which country are you in and which laws there would apply to you for viewing a stream? Does the UN international streaming police swoop in when you land on the page of athde or firstrowsports? I'm not even sure how it could be illegal within the territory of the United States. I could see if you yourself were uploading the copyright material stream or videos or even downloading a file but simply landing on a page and watching a stream?

Just this weekend licensing regulations in many places overseas prevented me from watching the debate on Fox, my Netflix cue, and Jon Stewart's farewell. The streams work only if you use one of those programs which fraudulent convinced the system that you are still in the U.S.

It's not a criminal matter exactly but the streams don't work

USTVNow.com  Sign up for the free version which has an ABC feed.  Has other channels too.  If you like it then pay for the higher bandwidth feed also has DVR availability.  It's meant for expats who want to watch US TV.
