OT: USWNT vs. England Pregame Thread

USWNT plays England today at 3pm today on Fox for a spot in the finals of the World Cup!

Should be an exciting match, and I hope they can continue winning and representing the values and beliefs that have made America such a great country!

Also, for those that missed it, Sue Bird (girlfriend of Megan Rapinoe) wrote a great piece on the Athletic earlier today about today's match and her relationship with Megan.

Board cries over Nike thread but unneeded bs about beliefs and values is totally fine.

You do realize the entire team has also been fighting to receive compensation equal to that of the men's team. And yes, they bring in more revenue than the men so I don't know how one can say that this isn't commendable and exhibits values this country has been founded on (i.e. equality regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation).

If you are discussing the gate revenue then yes you are correct, as of the past 3 years the women bring in more than the men.  The last analysis I saw that took all things into consideration was done by the Washington Post around the time of the 2015 women's world cup.  It showed that the women and the men had near equal viewership during their respective world cups, but that it was significantly different outside of the world cups.  Men brought in about 6 times more advertising revenue during their games than the women did.  Why that is is up for debate.  The women actually received a higher percentage of that advertising revenue than the men did, 13% to 9%.  I'm all for the women getting paid more than the men if they as a team bring in more money, as that would dictate pay scale.  They should also be getting more bonus money, as they win more.  But until the total balance sheet is equal (gate receipts, add revenue, merchandise sales, etc), paying someone the same as someone else just because seems stupid to me.  And I would say this and will say this when the women inevitably bring in more total revenue than the men.

Edit:  I went and looked it up.  According to Forbes, the last full 4 year cycle between world cups for the men generated 6 billion in revenue and received less than 7% of that.  The women over that last 4 year cycle that ended in the Vancouver World Cup brought in 73 million in revenue and took home 13% of that.  The numbers are not available for the current 4 year cycle yet.  As of right now, the argument against pay disparity rests on selective statistics and feelings instead of cold hard numbers.

Sounds like this was an amazing game.  Hope there is a digital file floating around somewhere to watch.  Excited to see them in the final again!
