OT: US Open - Men's Golf - LA Country Club - are you following it?

It's Father's Day weekend - and, in my sports calendar, that means it's US Open golf week.

This year's host is - the Los Angeles Country Club.

Will you follow it?   Any golfers you're cheering for - or, rooting against?

My hope is - the USGA has set up the course "tough" - but, not turned it into a joke - with greens baking / dying because of the speed and firmness the USGA tries to attain.   If the final score was "single digit under par", I would be quite content.

So, here's to a tight leaderboard on Sunday afternoon - with some very competitive golf from the field.   Enjoy!

P.S. though a few days early - Happy Father's Day wishes to all...

having 5 par 3's has absolutely nothing to do with the good scoring.

the usga had been shit scared ever since shinny. LACC is a brilliant angular golf course that needs to be firm to test the best players. when the usga spends all day tuesday watering the course the required angles disappear. it will get harder and harder over the weekend, of course.

Great day of golf at the Open. Nice to see Rickie, Xander, Rory, and DJ play so well. Lot of great players in contention.  Sam Bennett impressive young man with an old head.  Would not be surprised to see Scottie in contention at the end if he can make some putts.  Looking forward to a great tournament and Sunday final round.  Hope everyone enjoys the tournament. Happy final round Father's Day to all Dads.  Truly blessed.

I believe there is one other point worthy of note regarding this US Open.   This may be the first time in US Open history where the highest first round score was not in the 80's.

In fact - the "lowest ten players" shot between 77 and 79.

There are discussions as to "why" the scoring was so low.  One point is - the marine layer didn't rise early, and - as a result - the greens were more receptive.

As I watched the play - later first round starts, it appeared many pins were positioned in areas with significant break - such as 18+ inches of break AT the hole.   I wonder what the USGA may be planning to make the pin positions more challenging.   This is interesting - because they could turn this into a "crazy breaking" putt putt golf experience - which, I hope they will not do.

These players are so good - they are talented and the equipment enables them to do amazing things with the ball - that I sense the course is a bit defenseless.   The one "need" would be for wind and that the barrancas really come in to play.

Enjoy the second round today.
