OT: US Open golf - final round
It’s Father’s Day - which, in my sports world, means the final round of the US Open .. men’s golf, of course.
I will admit, after the first round - I didn’t know what to expect, and - honestly, didn’t have very high expectations. To the credit of the USGA - they were patient - and, had a plan for the four days of the event.
The course is speeding up, with the greens reported near 14 on the stimp. That’s as fast as anything possible - and, they don’t appear to be “killing” the greens with a lack of water, etc.
The five par threes is an interesting element, that I still am not sure if I’m a fan of. An 81 yard hole.. was interesting yesterday.
The crowds have been .. hmmm.. different. It doesn’t seem like a huge turnout - and, maybe that’s LA - which only seems to really care about the Lakers and Dodgers, IMHO.
Will you be watching? Any rooting interest(s)? I think the winner will come from one of the final two groups.
Enjoy.. and, wishes for a Happy Fathers Day.
We are watching the LPGA-and would be in Grand Rapids if we could. Terrific contest going on.
One characteristic of the course - and rules of golf.. may combine to be a factor.
That combination is … the “chute” or collection area - for tee shots on certain holes and playing the ball as it lies. Which means… balls in divots.. and impacts what a player can do with a shot (that finished in the fairway).
I certainly hope it doesn’t impact any player, especially those who are in contention. (And, it’s a rule I wish was changed.)
Need Wyndy C for a huge cash @ 80-1.
I’m sure you’re on pins and putters at this point but I think you’re going to win $$$. Clark has been impressively steady.
That was the most intense 5 holes of golf I’ve ever experienced. That said, $20 bet buys a new driver for sure!
wooooooo
ps. Playing The Tip podcast I breakdown and put out my bets for free every week. Check it out!!!!
Very nice—well played
Boooooorrrrriiiing
Pulling for Rickie Fowler.
Think the crowds seem down, because the course layout only allows them let in limited numbers.
Nah, club members bought up a lot of the tickets and USGA also called the number of tickets. LACC doesn't really want outsiders there.
Point was it is limited access, not necessarily LA sport fan lack of interest, holding down crowds.
That’s as false as Lionel Ritchie owning the house on #4
Odd post, IMO. I think it has been a great, exciting tournament with great crowds and a great course.
I want Rickie to win but I think Scheffler will win. Also keep an eye out for DJ going low. He has played far better than he had scored.
Some players would disagree on the course and the crowds.
Wow I haven’t heard any of that. I am guessing the ones that played like ass.
I’m guessing you don’t pay for golf channel, or watch local news…
Like 80% of them…
Still another 45 min before the leaders go off. I know LA is 3 hours behind, but did they really need to run it this late? The last group won’t finish before 10:30 Eastern.
They are playing as twosomes, and - I would guess they’ll finish in four hours - maybe 4:15. So, they’ll be done before 9:45 pm EDT. Still - that’s a late evening.
It looks like the marine layer is “in”, and the earlier starters have posted some lower numbers.
Rory and Scottie are about to tee off.
Enjoy..
They limited the tickets to 22k a day. Rooting for Rickie to win.
I got to play this course like 15 years ago. It’s a weird course in my opinion that doesn’t stick out as a good place for a major. I think it was a par 72 back then (now a par 70)
One other interesting thing I’ll add about this course. You can see a couple famous movie locations from the course.
1. Nakatomi Plaza from Die Hard. In fact, I’m sure I’ve seen it a couple times this week from the tv coverage alone.
2. the hotel in To Live in Die in LA where William Peterson had a stand off with a Palestinian terrorist.
I think the Playboy Mansion is just off a green on the back nine, maybe the 14th hole,
I thought they said yesterday it was the 13th. Either way, this is an iconic golf course.
That’s correct, but you can’t see it from the course. It’s well covered with no sight lines of Playboy Bunnies unfortunately
But the mansion does have a number of exotic animals that you could hear at times.
+1 To live and die in LA!
One of the more underrated 80s movies IMO
It’s now the back nine on Sunday. The first four players seem to be the ones with a chance to win. Respectively, they are at 11, 10, 8, and 7 under par. It is becoming a two man race between Clark and McIlroy.
Now Rory can get back to what's most important in his life, judging the guys who are on the LIV tour.
or just being someone who gives a shit about his sport?
13-14 is normal at LACC
