Yeah this game today is crazy. Hopefully the Tiger's pen holds it down and the White Sox do not come back.
And I agree with you; however, nothing makes me sleep easier than a victory over the White Sox.
Hopefully the Pen will not make me look stupider. We need Bondo for the 8th.
Unless he can throw in the mid 90's, he is worthless.
Well I heard reports that he is getting there and I am ready to believe.
How bout Avila tonight, what a big lift he has been.
Lyon has been excellent for some time now. Struggled a bit out of the gate, but he is a very good setup man. Plus, bondo is done, stick a fork in him. Its sad that it happened, but he just doesn't have it. He tops out at 92 nowadays, and most of the time isn't even that fast.
I would love to see Bondo make a successful return and if he was throwing like his old self he would be better than Lyon.

Lyon has actually been one of the most effective relief pitchers in major league baseball this year.
Since May 13th he has been. If we count the whole season, he would not be in that discussion. Bobby Seay has had a better season than Lyon.

since Chris Shelton. Also, 1 more Tigers homer and we all get a free beef & cheddar at Arby's tomorrow!

Rodney just doesn't pitch well in non-save situations. I wonder if he just doesn't get the adrenaline pumping with a cushy lead.

I want to like Rodney because he plays for my team, but he is by far my least favorite Tiger.
I just spent the past 15 minutes yelling at the TV.

With Verlander going tomorrow things are looking good, and maybe the pen can get a bit of a rest.
I would start Avila tomorrow, go with the hot bat, lord knows we need it.

Leyland mentioned in the post game that Laird will play tomorrow.

Tigers are facing a lefty tomorrow, so I guess I won't call for Leyland's head.
No, the Tigers are facing Carl Pavano. Hopefully they can finally get to this guyl.
I would play Avila. ESPN schedule had the Twins pitching a lefty.

So glad Rodney was able to close it out. He always gives me a heart attack whenever he pitches.
It's good to see Verlander getting the start tomorrow. If the Tigers can win this series, it will give them a nice lead over the Twins. Looks like the White Sox are losing too, which is good (for the Tigers anyway).

Any time we can get through Galarraga's start with a win, it's a plus. He's turned into a not-very-good pitcher. Good thing the Twinkies' starter was serving up steaming hot base hits on a platter.

Good ol' Amanda.
He was so good to start the season, but my guess this is closer to the mean than last year.

What's the Tigers' deal with Arby's? I haven't lived in Michigan for a couple years now.
Out here in AZ, if the Diamondbacks score 6 or more runs, you get three free hard tacos at Taco Bell the next day.

If the Tigers homer at least three times in a game, you can get a free beef and cheddar sandwich at Arby's the next day. Kind of a cool promotion, I've taken advantage of it a few times. You can't go wrong with free food.

AFAIK, this is only available in the metro area. Seem to remember a friend telling me he was unsuccessful here in Grand Rapids.
Ditto on Little Caesars. It may be $5 still on the east side, but a Hot-N-Ready over this way will cost ya $5.55.
$5.55 for a Hot n' Ready still isnt bad. I usuall get mine with sausage.
I live in GR too and havent tried to get an Arbys sammich but Im not a big fan of Arbys.
Im going to the Tigers game on Saturday. Boy am I so glad that I lucked out watching Verlander pitch and not Galarraga. Why is Washburn #2? Is it because of the whole splitting up the bullpen thing Leyland tried earlier in the season?
August 8th, 2009 at 10:16 AM ^
Leyland likes to split up his hard throwing Right handers with a soft tossing lefty. In theory it hard for the opposing lineup to adjust from the soft lefty to the hard righty. It really used to work with Rogers between Bonderman and Verlander.
Just think if it as a lineup would you want to go right right left, or right left right.
Don't worry in a playoff series, if we can control our rotations, I'm sure it will be Verlander, Jackson, Washburn,.
In a five game series you might be able to sqeeze two starts out of Verlander and Jackson if lucky.
In a 7 game, I would split them up, because then if you go Verlander Washburn Jackson Porcello, you get Washburn game 6 at home and Jackson pitching the potential game 7. Although this means that Verlander throws both of his games on the road, where he's not as good.
