OT: Tennessee AD Texts Leaked -- CFB Search & Hoke Highlights

Submitted by Kalamablue on

Thought this was too good to not share.  Former Tennessee AD, John Currie, had his text messages revealed during the tumultuous head coaching search at UT this past winter.

Highlights include Currie calling Vols fans "wackos", and most importantly, confirmation that Brady Hoke communicates in all caps.

Hoke highlights:

"JOHN I HOPE YOU DO KNOW I WOULD LIKE TO BE YOUR HEAD FOOTBALL COACH I DO KNOW THE ENVIRONMENT WE LIVE IN AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AT TENNESSEE!"

"JOHN VERY SORRY TO HEAR WHAT HAS HAPPENED THIS IS THE BULL CRAP THAT COLLEGE FOOTBALL HAS BECOME. IF I CAN BE OF ANY HELP PLEASE LET ME KNOW."

"JOHN I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN HARD DAVE BRANDON HAS GONE THRU THE MOB MENTALITY AS I HAVE IT MADE ME BETTER AND IT SUCKS.  WE ARE BEHIND YOU AND IF I CAN BE OF ANY HELP LET ME KNOW"

...Currie responded with "I'm sorry who is this"  to the last one.

Both Hoke texts perfectly illustrate the dense and clueless but ultimately decent nature of Hoke's personality.

The fact that he wrote the texts in all caps is classic Hoke: he's totally unfamiliar with the norms of SMS communication and he didn't think to take a few minutes to educate himself on it before firing off an important message to his boss.

The first text to Currie shows how clueless he is in thinking that he has a shot at the job despite repeatedly demonstrating that he's not cut out for the big stage.

But the text in which Hoke reached out to Currie after Currie's firing and offered his sympathies (despite the fact that there was nothing Currie could do to help Hoke by that point) shows that Hoke is ultimately a decent and good-natured guy who is easy to laugh at but hard to dislike.

All in all, vintage Hoke.
