OT: Team USA Basketball snaps 58 game winning streak
Game was on early this morning (7am ET) and I wasn't that dedicated to get up on the West Coast for what appears to be a mediocre roster.
6 straight scoreless possessions to close the game won't win many games obviously.
Not many superstars on the USA roster, but France really only has one in Golbert. Fournier is talented, but shouldn't be the one to beat us. A couple of injuries to team USA kept PJ Tucker, Lowry and Kuzma off the roster and De'Aaron Fox was focusing on his NBA season.
I know it's only FIBA and not the Olympics, but hoping Team USA makes some roster adjustments before the 2020 Olympics.

I'm confident Team USA will be able to get most, if not all, of the top guys for the 2020 Olympics.

No, France snapped it. :)

Football school.

English...we should all be better at it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why play an exhibition for free, when I have a $20M (or more) contract year at stake?
September 11th, 2019 at 12:28 PM ^
This wasn't an exhibition. This is the World Cup, the biggest international competition outside of the OIympics. (They do get some kind of salary for playing, though it's obviously not NBA level.)
Of course, their pro teams have no beef with them skipping it, though.

true but NBA prestige (+ NBA money) >>>>>>>>>> olympics prestige >>>> world cup prestige

Sure, and I get why some declined. But this isn't some promotional exhibition or whatever. This is our first loss in a competitive international game since 2006.

People pay attention to team usa basketball still, so 1990s

The media will rag on the guys for losing (like our hockey, soccer, and baseball teams do better) but credit to them for risking injury and big contracts to put on the jersey when many guys decided to stay home for the summer.
No dount the big names will come out for the olympics an dominate on the way to Gold

I don't see it as a bad thing. Helps build excitement about the game, and for the Olympics. Maybe puts a little more pressure on for the U.S. to do the Olympics right, and for the best players to participate.

Bummer -- even with this roster they shouldn't lose a game.

That or either the rest of the world is catching up. The US needed a miracle to not get upset by Turkey in the first game.
September 11th, 2019 at 1:28 PM ^
Its still a team game. Youd think Messi, Suarez and Aguero would have a world cup title but they dont. Players not geling during international tourneys is common

France might be getting used to winning games in the World Cup Tournament.

If you post a topic like this on these boards, you have to frame the title as "Team USA Basketball Not Accumulating Points".

If USA Basketball was forced to send its C team to FIBA's World Cup, then maybe they should've considered keeping a roster spot open for the Atlanta Hawks' Vince Carter.

So sad. Vince Carter jumping over Frederic Weiss was an iconic moment of my childhood.

I blame the Pitbull banner.
