OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - 'Verts?

Submitted by JeepinBen on April 16th, 2019 at 10:39 AM

Some folks took last week's SUV topic poorly, and for that I apologize. I was purposely antagonistic and curious how people justified their car purchases logically - and I agreed with many of the responses that said cars are often NOT a logical purchase! Both of my Jeep Wranglers were not wonderful cars but amazing vehicles and toys. They were loud, slow, bad on gas, and far from the best way to get from Point A to Point B. And despite all that, I find myself longing for a 20 year old vehicle that I sold 8 years ago every spring. The biggest reason - dropping the top.

Convertible sales are down across the US, now only about 1% of the market. Every spring I open my sunroof and wish it was a whole top. So - do you have a convertible? did you? Do you want one? Miss one? Why? Why not?

Convertibles are fun, but nowhere near as fun as motorcycles.

I've been driving an '03 SL500 for the last 10 years, but the repair expenses have mounted.  I have enjoyed the car, it runs like a raped ape & corners like no other car I've driven, but I don't think I'll ever buy another Mercedes.  I was thinking about trading it in for an '08 or '09 Cadillac XLR.

Love my Shelby GT500 convertible, but in Virginia and Maryland the top can be down far more than 4 months of the year and it just gets stored every winter.

I had a VW Cabriolet, which was the worst car I've ever had, then I got smart and got an Alfa Romeo Graduate, which was a dream car in every way except in the snow. Manual take down vinyl roof, no door locks, stick shift in the vertical part of the console. Oh my God, I loved that car. That's probably the only convertible I would have now. Otherwise, not really interested.

Damn. Late to the party.

Yes. Yes. No cuz I have one. Because being out in the open while driving is awesome. The only thing better than cruising in mine was cruising in my brother's YJ, where we could take the doors off too.

Thank you!

I get no credit though.

MGoBrotherInLaw bought it used and had it repainted at a custom shop in LA.

It has some stone dings now, and I'm okay with that. The only way I can think to avoid those is not to drive it, and that isn't happening though.

Yes, I like cars with colors. Darth Vader black is cool sometimes (GNX, GLHS) but I liked colors. Remember the GMC Typhoon in teal? The Shelby Charger in Maroon and Silver? Or today the resurrectin of Plumb Crazy...

I bough a 2003 BMW Z4 3.0i last August.  Haven't had much chance to drive it this year... maybe 100 miles.  It's a fun car though.  Didn't really want to get a convertible but my wife allowed the purchase of this model so I jumped at it.  I have to say it's pretty great to drive with the top down.  And even though it's not very rare, it does get a lot of looks.  My next "fun" car will likely be a coupe but I'm enjoying my time withe the convertible right now.

If there is a chance that the door in your car will slam and you will not be able to open it, then a professional locksmith can help you. Thanks to this service, I was able to get out of this situation. The most interesting thing is that these specialists are engaged in all types of locks and can check your home or office for security.
