OT- Shoop to Tennessee

Submitted by DCGrad on
Per the Twitters Shoop (PSU DC) has joined Butch Jones in Tennessee. Good hire for Butch and big loss for Franklin

No one really rates him highly. He's just bad. Good recruiter and that was enough to build some respectable teams at Vanderbilt but PSU fans expect conference and national titles and he'll never do that coaching in the same division as Harbaugh, Meyer, and D'Antoni. He'll be gone before long.

I'm on the ground in Pennsyltucky and Franklin wasn't popular going into this season. All the things their fans didn't like about him (playcalling, clock management, etc) got worse this year.

I was the one reminding them about sanctions coming into the season but after Temple I had to admit they were right.

Franklin doesn't have a pool of goodwill to draw from and what he had ran out long ago.

Tennessee defense is going to be legit the next few years.

And as for PSU, barring a miraculous offensive turnaround next year, Franklin's days are numbered. Shoop was the one thing keeping PSU respectable with Franklin around.

Next year or he's probably out on his ass. As every good DC or rising star assistant coach knows this, who in the hell is going to want that job? They'll probably have to promote from within.

That's true. I just think their defense was all they had (even with an NFL caliber QB) and with shoop leaving he could be hard to replace. And with a new OC in Moorhead it could be a long year for psu football. Franklin should be worried.

Not sure he gets past next year if he has another 6-6 to 7-5 year. The talent he's bringing in means he has no excuses anymore.

Next year has a pretty manageable schedule for them. Yeah they have to come to Ann Arbor for what will be a likely beating, but MSU and OSU come to Happy Valley, along with Temple and Iowa.

He has no excuses to not win 8-9 games next year. Absolutely zero.

I bet PSU loses all of those games. Maybe they beat Temple at home, but trust me--they are going to suck and Franklin is going to get canned.

I bet they replace him with an uninspired insider or alum choice as well. When blue blood programs panic, they often push that button. And they don't have a Harbaugh type option among the possible candidates.

Another year for us to build critical mass as the recruiting power in NJ the DC area.  This used to be fertile Penn State recruiting ground.
