OT RIP DMX
Dang, too young.
Prince Phillip - also too young.
Prince Phillip: Wait, you mean when I married Elizabeth I agreed to give up my Royal Naval career, walk 2 paces behind her at all times in public, my children can't take my last name, and I don't even become King when she becomes Queen? GET MY BLOODY AGENT ON THE PHONE, YOU TWIT
It's still pretty decent work if you can get it.
It's dark and hell is hot.
Too soon?
But seriously, loved this guy growing up. and I appreciated how his message changed as he matured.
Thought the same exact thing
I'm sad that X will no longer be able to give it to us.
They got what they really want from him.
I can’t thumbs up something like this, but yah, not sure all the hand wringing? The guy was in trouble for cruelty to animals and not paying his child support. Just because he made good music 20-25 years ago isn’t going to make me upset that a bad person passed away. Geesh
It's sad to me that people have to use hard drugs to feel good. He put out some awesome music. I wish he would have been happier inside.
Considering his childhood, I don't think he could ever be happy inside. That kind of sustained trauma fucks a person up for life.
It's a minor miracle that he achieved the success he did AND made it to 50. RIP, X.
Well said.
You make a great point here. Honestly didn't really think about that aspect
Was it drugs? I read he took the vaccine and a couple days later got a heart attack. His family said no drugs were found in his system...
Did Bill Gates pull the kill trigger?
Loved him in Exit Wounds.
Nooo. One of my all time favorites. Has the best intro song of all time. ?
This dude made bangers. An all timer for sure and one of the first rappers I listened too growing up. I remember very vividly the first time I heard him. It was the end of summer and I was going school shopping when How’s It Goin Down came on WJLB. The rest is history.
That song was so smooth.
RIP. All time great rapper. Had some demons and those can be tough to get rid of regardless of your wealth and status.
Slippin n fallin....and can't get up
RIP
I wasn't really a big DMX fan but that's a legitimately great song. And the one where he meets the Devil (I'm forgetting what it's called (EDIT: it's called 'Damien')) is also pretty great.
This rap shit is mine, motherfucker
It's not a fucking game
Perhaps I was a bad parent, but we used to blast "X Gon Give It To Ya" on long family road trips when we needed a jolt of adrenaline.
RIP, X.
Good to see I'm not the only "bad parent" around these parts
We play that song a lot for our son, who's name begins with X. He doesn't enjoy it as much as we do, but he's a toddler.
I never was a big fan of his music, but he was a very talented actor in my opinion. He probably doesn't get enough credit for that.
With that, RIP DMX.
RIP Earl Simmons. This man was the soundtrack to so many wild nights out, and also had some real heartfelt, soul-bearing songs. Rest in Power.
That's why I thought that he was the heir apparent to Tupac. He had crazy energy and charisma that translated across multiple platforms that could have made him an A lister. Just like Pac he had that ability to make songs that would make you wild out, dance, or grab you by your heartstrings and make you think. He was truly talented.
To me, his life story is actually sadder than his passing. I'm glad he is no longer suffering.
For a small midwestern Jesuit university, when Xavier's hoops team would hit the floor to "X Gon' Give it to Ya," it was pretty bad ass. Couldn't find a video but here's the t-shirt.
I don’t see it as bad parenting...I view music as an art and it should be introduced to young people the in its entirety the way the artist intended. I’m teaching my 10 year old to Box and Mr Simmons is on the playlist along with Wu, BIG, PAC etc. The kid understands it’s music and it inappropriate of him to say some of the words he’s hearing.
RIP X.
Sad, tragic story. Dude was the man from the late 90s-early 2000s. RIP X.
One of the best to ever do it.
RIP Dark Man X
Absolutely brilliant musician. His two 1998 albums were the soundtrack of my late senior year of high school and driving home from college. First one mostly, though the second one I actually bought instead of burned off a copy from a friend. And of course all of Mosher-Jordan's shared network got their scraped up mp3s from me. I'd organize them into mixes and this one was called "Songs from the Skillets" (and an album cover of course) that led with Rough Riders Anthem.
If someone from Michigan has a copy of that song with the opening riff of Fuckin' Wit' D on the end of it, odds are that was ripped on my Compaq.
Today we use "Stop, Drop, Shut 'Em Down, Open Up Shop, Oh, No, Let the Rough Riders Roll" as a mindfulness exercise with my daughter.
X finally gave it to him.
RIP bud ...... dude was fucking legit
Can you even have a hip hop power hour without Ruff Ryders Anthem? RIP.

Prince Phillip spent a lifetime being PWed without getting the P.
