OT: This post from Volnation makes me feel like I'm in a parallel universe
This might be deleted since it's OT, but oh well. In my opinion I'm tired of seeing CC threads and any other bad news.
I do go on other big college football boards every once and a while and I happened to go on volnation just now.
With Tennessee's choke in their game on Saturday which they were finally expected to beat Florida for the first time in 10 years, they seem to be in similar shape as us.

I think the OP was a guy attempting to bring back what people were saying near the end of Fulmer's career.
Then there are various posts talking about how Fulmer did not recruit very well near the end, and other things like David Cutcliffe and John Chavis made him look much better than he was. Also Fulmer struggled hard against Florida and after their national title season they really didn't come close to being elite ever again.
I think this post sums it up:
''Pretty much.... while ignoring the fact that the ditch UT has been in over the last 6 years is EXACTLY where Fulmer put the program. You can blame others for not correcting it... but not for causing it.''

I don't think blaming Lloyd Carr for everything is going to do any good at this point.
October 6th, 2014 at 10:03 PM ^
Who is blaming Lloyd Carr for everything?
October 6th, 2014 at 10:14 PM ^
That seems like the implication of the post. When you said you feel like you are in a parallel universe and then cite a post blaming a recently (as in 5-7 years) fired coach from Tennessee for the current problems, what makes it a parallel universe other than the Lloyd Carr aspect?

No. They said on the Huge Show that it is all Jim Leyland's fault.
October 6th, 2014 at 10:32 PM ^
I don't think he made it very easy for Rich Rod. Rich Rod made mistakes of his own also. But Hoke has done himself in. When you go 11-2 your first year but get worse every year until you're the worst team in the big ten, that's all on you.
October 6th, 2014 at 11:56 PM ^
Hoke got very lucky to go 11-2 and win the Sugar Bowl, and we all (or most) acknowledged that luck at the time. Still, you are 100% correct, there has been a steep decline since then, and that's all on Hoke.
Before this season, we were all waiting to see if Borges really was the problem. That has proven to not be the case. Hoke sunk this ship, and he has to go down with it.
Now, did Brandon torpedo Hoke? Sure looks like it. But even though Brandon should go, Hoke has to take the blame as well.

About 35% of Michigan's fans since August 2007.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:49 AM ^
You will get shouted down every time you even come close to mentioning Lloyd is anything short of a legend.
You can't win. I gave up for the most part but sometimes I get upset enough to post.
It never goes well.
October 7th, 2014 at 1:39 AM ^
There's a field that Michigan's opponents couldn't rack up enough yards to cover between "Anything short of a legend" and "Responsible for Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke being incompetant."
October 7th, 2014 at 8:52 AM ^
The 2008 team was going to be a stinker/rebuilder even if Lloyd was still there, He oversaw a steady rot of the program that was largely masked by the Big 10 nose diving, and got to retire before having his Mack Brown moment where he couldn't manage the rebuild.
Maybe he could have gotten the team rebuilt by 2010; the success rate for older coaches rebuilding after they lead their team down a hole ain't great though. He sure as hell shouldn't have submarined RichRod the way he did though.
October 7th, 2014 at 1:08 PM ^
Given that Carr was here 13 years and never had a losing season, there is no reason to assume he'd have had one the year after he retired. If Carr stays, the following things happen:
1)the offense doesn't go through a radical transition that forces everyone to start from scratch
2)the defense likely lives up to its preaseason billing as an elite unit instead of being collateral damage in the Shafer/Richrod/position coach dispute and forced to change schemes twice
3)there are fewer transfers and generally better team morale, since the players will be playing for the guys who recruited them.
That probably is enough to get to 6-8 wins. Don't forget that we had four close losses as it was (Utah, Toledo, Purdue, NW) - even with Richrod we could have easily done better than 3-9.

I was never lucky enough to work with him, but my father worked with him plenty and speaks highly of him.

How did your dad lose his right earpiece? Did you know him before he lost it, or was he born that way? Did other kids make fun of your dad? Did your mom have two earpieces? Would you be willing to amputate your right earpiece if that meant more time on Coach Hoke's head? Did your dad's situation make you afraid to appear in front of large groups?

Meyer for everything that has happened at jorts since he took the job. At some point you have to man up and accept criticism for not fulfilling your responsibilities.
October 7th, 2014 at 10:50 AM ^
Jorts? Is that short for the University of Florida?

Each and every poster on that board also firmly believed JON GRUDEN would coach there before they hired Butch Jones.
Jon.

It makes me thankful we snapped our losing streak against OSU. Can you imagine if we had not won in 2011...

In our defense....we have only lost by a combined 6 points in 2 years with clearly inferior squads to OSU's.
October 6th, 2014 at 11:26 PM ^
yeah, say what you want about Hoke (and there's a lot to say) but he has had us ready for the OSU game every year in a way we hadn't been in half a decade plus
October 7th, 2014 at 8:28 AM ^
The intellectual dishonesty around here is kind of baffling. It's like you can't recognize the one nugget of gold that Hoke has been able to find, because of all the iron pyrite that he's dumped on us. I mean, I kind of get it, but not really.
I agree with you 100%, and that's really the only game I'm still looking forward to.
October 6th, 2014 at 11:15 PM ^
Hoke has been our interim coach for 4 years now, unfortunately his W/L record will count

A few other tidbits from Tennessee:
1. Tennessee has lost 12 coin tosses in a row (chances of that are 0.0012%)
2. Florida's freshman qb that led them on the game winning drive gets suspended two days after
3. Florida's kicker made a 49 yarder game winning field goal which was his first in 8 tries

It seems to be a sign of the times. With sports radio, social media, and various sports blogs, there often ends up being a huge echo chamber of condemnation when a team doesn't perform up to expectations. Here in Oklahoma, the current consensus seems to be that the OU coaching staff is a bunch of idiots for the game plan and preparation against TCU.

Stoops has a national title, 3 other national title game appearances, and 8 conference titles in a conference where he had to win a conference championship game for 7 of those. Do want.

He's from Youngstown and probably grew up with the UM-OSU rivalry. Maybe he wants to be a part of it. You would think someone out there would like the challenge of facing Urban Meyer in the greatest rivalry in sports.
October 6th, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
which means we can get ten good years out of him. I'm in.
October 6th, 2014 at 11:18 PM ^
The fans aren't calling for his ouster yet this year ( they have in previous years though). But, with the OU fanbase believing a place as one of the four playoff teams was a given this year, a second loss will lead many of them calling for his firing. But, the AD who hired him supports him and is still around, so I don't see a scenario where Stoops is forced out.
October 7th, 2014 at 12:37 AM ^
*Sigh* I remember when two or three losses a year made people complain about how terrible our coaches were. Ah, memories.

Exactly what bowl games was Michigan supposed to be playing in 132 years ago? The Sugar Bowl has only been been around for abou 80 years, and the Fiesta Bowl barely more than 40.
October 7th, 2014 at 1:00 AM ^
I think what he's saying is Michigan has a history of losing big bowl games.
October 7th, 2014 at 8:12 AM ^
I don't think your comparison of 132 years makes any sense. In the 70's you either went to the Rose Bowl or you stayed home. There were three years where Bo won 10+ games but didn't go to a Bowl.
There wasn't even a BCS until what - late 90s?

Fulmer didn't leave behind anything special, but they are where they are because UT hired Lake Kiffin and Derek Dooley. Not because of Fulmer.
