M Go Dead

Absolutely. I have strong memories of 1996's opening day. Got out of elementary school to go with my dad, brother, a family friend and his two sons. It was a rainy and s chilly day, so my mom dressed me rather heavily. I was sitting in the back of the van, it was hot and I had some motion sickness and I threw up in the cup holders on the way downtown.

Watched the findley market parade in a the misty rain/snow. Got to the game, and in the top of the first the home plate umpire walked to the backstop and collapsed. He died at the hospital and the game was cancelled. I vividly remember seeing him collapse.

By the way it is the 12th consecutive opening day sellout for the Rays.  Not sure what it looks like on tv but the game is sold out.

The next 80 home games will be pathetically attended - that stadium is a shit hole x 10.  I personally would much rather hit the hometown Bradenton Marauders (high Class A) games instead of a Rays game.  Minor league baseball is just awesome.

The Rays haven't sold out a game in years. Probably not since they were in the World Series. They're not all of a sudden going to start now. Even when the Sox or the Yankees are in town, they can't even open up the upper decks.

Tropicana Field is an abomination and an overall insult to the game of baseball. No one wants to watch a game in that shit hole.

far behind. Baseball, the sport most like life, long season of high and lows chasing a prize that will escape all but one, taking comfort in the good days and the perfect plays. A game built around radio and the imaginations of the listeners. Here's to those of us who had Ernie as our narrator who promised that things will come and go but we will always have baseball come spring.

As a five-decade Cubs fan, I have no experience rooting for a professional team on opening day. Most years the Cubs were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs by this time.

I'm confused. Am I supposed to be looking forward to the season? I kinda feel like I should. Is this normal?

Dad would pull me out of school on opening day and we'd buy average price tickets at the gate. Internet has pretty much ended that experience. Still, it's good to be back

And this ESPN broadcast is shit. The inning long obsession with Kevin What's his name, which comes down to "he plays deep." Showing an interview with him DURING THE FUCKING INNING. All for a mediocre player on a shitty team. It is unwatchable.
