OT: Ohio Stadium Visit

Submitted by Granite on July 19th, 2019 at 12:26 AM

I'm on a road trip from Chicago through Columbus (worst place in the world, I know -- it was the quickest route).

I've decided to visit Ohio Stadium tomorrow morning to hex it with a ritual incantation of some sort.

Any ideas for what I should say or do? I'll buy the best suggestion a beer at Ann Arbor Art Fest this weekend.

(I don't think I can reverse jinx it any worse than it's been, but also happy to be convinced otherwise. . .)

Step 1

To avoid detection at the stadium, do not shower, wear deodorant, or brush your teeth the day prior to arrival.  If possible- remove five or six teeth and grow a mullet.

Step 2

Place a small picture of John Cooper inside a crack or seam of the stadium foundation.

Step 3

After leaving, burn clothing, wash and disinfect your body thoroughly, and visit your doctor for any vaccinations and antibiotics you may need.

Buy a dozen sticks of deodorant and just put them anywhere around the stadium.  It’s like holy water to a vampire

Place a Jobu statue on a picture of Dave Brandon's face at the entrance of that stadium. Pour Jobu a shot of bourbon, light a cigar for him and ask Jobu to replace OSU's AD with Dave Brandon.

If you're on a roadtrip from Chicago to Ann Arbor for the art fair, going through Columbus is not the quickest route....

Shouldn't "Ohio Stadium" be at Ohio University anyway?  They were originally the flagship university of the state and was only surpassed by OSU when Rutherford Hayes made it his pet project after he left the White House.

Solve an equation, calculate the square of a hypotenuse, spell "hypotenuse," do anything requiring intelligence & learning, and the place just might tumble from the shock.

Lock your keys in your car.

The first time I visited Columbus, I had some time to kill, so I went to see the shoe. I parked at the field house across the street to the north and locked my keys in my car with no cell phone and no way to contact the people I was supposed to meet later on.

I did walk around the stadium (gates were locked, no way in, but the bars of the gates appropriately resembled a prison) after the campus police managed to open up my car for me. Interestingly, I could see the scoreboard through the gates, already lit with the opponent that was coming later in the week.

It was 1998. The opponent was a mediocre MSU team. OSU lost that game, costing them a national title.

I hate MSU happiness but I loved, loved, LOVED the end of that game.  After the game ending interception, John Cooper ran out on the field and looked like his head was going to explode.

And Brent Musberger said, "Ladies and gentlemen, Michigan State has beaten Michigan to the punch."

Of course, this was back when beating OSU was the norm.  But I just loved how OSU nation was at this critical heartbreaking moment and Musberger kicked them while they were down.

Long time lurker, first time poster - couldn't resist this one.

I visited Ohio Stadium a couple years ago.  The president of the company I work for is an Ohio grad and scheduled our annual sales conference in Columbus and thought a tour of the stadium would be a highlight (he knew there were several UM grads present for the conference).

So during the stadium tour, which included going down on the field, my colleague and fellow Wolverine and I both deposited our UM alumni cards in the goal post (horseshoe end) holding sleeve.  Obviously don't know if they are still there (I sure hope so), but it felt good to leave a UM mark in that hell hole (even though it didn't help bring us victory the last 2 visits).

I visited Ohio Stadium three times:

1) UM 14 OSU 3

2) UM 9 OSU 3

3) Columbus Marathon 1991*

*I'd say just do what I did and puke on the sidewalk...

Take a walk down High Street; go over to the Oval and walk through it. When you're in the Stadium go up to "C" Deck; cool view.

I brought my three year old to the horseshoe to visit the rotunda with the maize and blue flowers, and told her the story of how they got there. On the way back, I asked what she thought, she shouted: I want to go to Michigan next time!
