OT: Oakland A's use Michigan Helmet for Player of the Game Award

Submitted by bmacjr11 on

First post here and blog experience is limited so don't kill me, but this was some cool stuff to me and I figured I would share it with the MGoCommunity.

For those of you who follow @CoachJim4UM on twitter, you would most likely have already seen his shout out to Billy Butler a few days back with an image of Country Breakfast wearing a Michigan helmet and in a 3-point stance.  I am actually a close friend of Billy's and he knows my obsession for everything UM.  Following that post, he sent me a pic of the helmet in his locker.

He explained that this looks to be a season long tradition for the A's and the Winged Helmet will be the "award" for Oakland's Player of the Game.  The player will be entrusted with the helmet until it is re-awarded to the next POG.

Anyway, thought that was worth sharing, and something that Michigan can hang their hat/helmet on!

Disclaimer: I don't watch/follow baseball at all.

Am I crazy or am I reading this correctly. There is a guy named Country Breakfast?

Pomeranz was quick to say he’s not a Michigan fan, since he’s a proud Ole Miss alum. Asked if he’d worn it, Pomeranz said, ‘ “I wore it earlier. Not for the interviews.”

Well, no one's perfect and an appropriate award for an Ole Miss fan is not precisely something you want to keep large amounts of in a locker room necessarily. The helmet will have to do, but I don't get why you wouldn't want to wear the block "M" for interviews. Maybe this is my fandom talking.

"The A's to me, the way they compete, the team, the different way they think, they are jungle lions. Zoo lions get tired of zebra after a while and want filet mignon. Not jungle lions."

- Coach Harbaugh

Ignore the fact that Lions don't live in jungles... and that zoo lions aren't feed zebra.  Go A's! Go Blue!

In that Tweet, Harbaugh is going to send 3 Helmet Stickers to put on that bad boy. That means we won't have to wait until the fall to see what these stickers are going to look like!
