OT - NYE in Orlando

Submitted by CWoodIsMyBoiii on

Hey, everyone!  I wanted to reach out to my fellow MGobloggers who will be in the Orlando area for the bowl game and see what plans you all have for NYE.  A few of my friends and I are flying in on the 31st and are looking for a party/bar to head to for the night.  Is there a spot where a lot of UofM fans will be heading?  Or maybe a party appropriate for mid 20 year olds looking for a fun night?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks and bring on Kareem!!

My first assumption is that you mean pleasure island, which no longer exists, so you're probably recommending "downtown disney". I live in the area and have season passes to disney, but I admittedly don't take the kids to downtown disney very often. I'm fairly confident that all nightclubs and bars were removed a few years ago when pleasure island was shut down, and it's only restaurants and shops now.

Wife and I are planning on hitting up Corona Cigar Company for a cigar and to watch Sparty lose to Bama.  I'll bring some extra cigars in case any Michigan people are there as well.

I'll be there. Look for the guy in the maize and blue. /rimshot

For real though, good question. Was wondering the same thing. Staying at the Courtyard Orlando Downtown. Always looking for another drinking buddy if anyone is staying there or nearby.

I'm going with a group of mid to late 20 year olds as well, and the wall st plaza party seemed like our favorite option that we had found. Do you think we could get into a bar to watch the msu game there? Would it be worth it to get the $100 VIP tickets that are all you can drink with 2 am breakfast provided? What kind of setup would you compare it to? Is it similar to the Jacksonville landing area? Thanks.

It's not even a full city block, just with bars/restaurants on each side of a very small street.  It's a plaza with cool Christmas lights hanging across, with stages and bars outside as well as each location.  I'm not sure if the VIP area would have TVs, so I can't recommend that.  It opens at 8PM, so I would think if you watch the first game at a bar downtown and then head over a little before 8, you could find a seat at one of the bars.

Hopefully someone who lives in Orlando can tell us more about this location.  I would be there this year, but I'm going to the game with family and we have an 18 year old with us (21+ to get in).  In terms of being in your mid-twenties, this is probably the best spot in Orlando.  You will get a strong local crowd.

Lastly...found their Facebook page, so it will give you a general idea of setup: https://www.facebook.com/wallstplaza

I am a fan of the downtown Orlando bar and restaurant district. You could always go to Ybor City now that they have renovated it. On your way there you could stop in for some gambling at the Hard Rock Casino. Or you could head East on SR 528 and wander around Port Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, or Sebastian. It really depends on if you are driving yourself or having a company kart you around.

After that can you help a mid forties father of three find a way to have fun on NYE with three kids ages 1-9 on his hip? Oh, and a wife. I'll be drinking at home. Feel free to stop by. I'll only leave for a bit.

A group of 4 of us are staying at the Hyatt at the Orlando AIrport. Doubt there's any good bars around there, but I'm guessing that getting to Downtown will be close to impossible without driving, and Uber will be a mess. May just settle for nearby dinner and hotel room midnight, but open to suggestions.

I live in orlando. Head to the waterford lakes area. it's UCFs campus, so there's a pretty solid bar scene. You'll avoid the mess that downtown will certainly be, but I don't think you'll have that bad of a time getting Uber. Check out cooper's hawk for a fantastic meal and wine, then head to cloak and blaster for a great bar and beer selection. there's plenty of bars in the area so you'll figure it out from there.
