Been on paid administrative leave for almost 18 months and it's only just now gotten to the point of filing charges. I can kind of understand keeping him on paid leave because if they fire him and he's found not guilty, he can probably sue for wrongful termination. But this is taking forever. I'm hoping the case is resolved quickly and they can get rid of him for good, but given how long it's taken to get this far I won't hold my breath.

They have grounds to terminate regardless if he is found guilty.

Conduct unbecoming of an employee from an institution that has had many rape allegations. Bad representation of the university from an authority figure.

Even if it’s deemed they wrongfully terminate, he can collect unemployment and be on his way or get a lawyer to get back pay and his job back...but they are paying him anyway so what’s the difference? Cut him loose, save face that you attempted to do the right thing.

I think the bigger point is this....

Strike 1 - 2015 hit his girl friend inside Spartan Stadium and lied about it.
Strike 2 - 2016 a different girl accuses him of attempted rape.

Nothing happened...

2018 Investigations showed that he knew about an allegation against Nassar and didn't act because "Nassar is the best in the world."

Then finally in 2018 placed on paid administrative leave to show that they care about victims - teal ribbons and all.  Apparently not enough for strike 3 to get fired though.

The RCMB definitely has its share of less-than-stellar characters, but that's the only comment of that sort in that thread. And it currently has 9 downvotes and no upvotes, so the rest of the board doesn't agree with that guy either. Most people in the thread are angry that the trainer is still on payroll and want him gone.

Systemic. This is what their fans don’t get . It’s not a bad actor. It’s not an isolated incident. It’s an institution that through its inaction, cover ups, negligence and disdain for the rule of law sends a signal to anyone who interacts with the university that sexual abuse and assault are trivial matters. Create the environment and these things will fester and thrive in ways large and small.

Writing.  You lose readers throughout an article.  That's why you understate things by leading with details about a misdemeanor that could be explained away.  Then, in case you didn't just stop reading & assumed that it's not to bad...

"...Both charges are misdemeanors.

Jager also is charged with attempting to sexually assault a different woman in Lansing  in February 2016. In that case he faces a felony charge and up to 10 years in prison."
