MSU lost 2 starters on Saturday. Linebacker Darius Snow will miss the rest of the season. Also, starting safety Xavier Henderson will miss an unknown length of time.

Never want that to happen to a kid, even if they wear green.
September 5th, 2022 at 7:30 PM ^
Fuck, I'm old. I just called them kids.
September 5th, 2022 at 7:43 PM ^
I'm 36 and I refer to 40 year olds as kids.
September 5th, 2022 at 7:46 PM ^
I'm 43 and I refer to geriatric congress members as kids.

Awesome

Winning comment

I'm 73. 99% of the world are kids.
September 5th, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
I'm 36 too and call baby goats kids.
September 6th, 2022 at 9:57 AM ^
And how do they address you in return? :-)
September 6th, 2022 at 7:51 AM ^
Joking aside, it is a funny phenomenon that happens. I'm 39 and refer to people 40-50 all the time as being "so young".
September 6th, 2022 at 10:08 AM ^
You're 36?! Damn this whole time I assumed you were one of our older residents. I think your avatar subliminally made me think you were perpetually in your mid 40s for all these years...
September 6th, 2022 at 12:25 AM ^
Give it several decades and you'll start calling everyone "kid" because a) they are kids and b) you can't be bothered to remember their names, or c) care enough to be polite in addressing them.
Quite liberating! 😉

We see the players as somewhat in the abstract, especially as they are muscle-bound behemoths in full body armor and helmets. But when you have children that are the same age as them, or even older, it is very easy to think of them as kids.
September 6th, 2022 at 7:18 AM ^
As long as they stay off my lawn I'm good with the kids. That and they need to keep that new fangled music down.
September 5th, 2022 at 7:33 PM ^
Hate that for Snow.
on the competitive front, Is this a significant loss for them?
September 5th, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
He was listed as the backup MLB on know the enemy by Alex and listed him as a solid run defender, former safety, who couldn't cover.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:22 PM ^
but can he shoot FTs?
September 5th, 2022 at 7:56 PM ^
Some places list him as a starter, others as 2nd string. I expect he was supposed to be on the field a lot. Linebacker/defensive line was suppose to be a strength of MSU and their secondary a weakness.
Last year against us he was credited with 10 tackles and he finished the year tied for 3rd in tackles on MSU with 81.
Henderson who is also injured led MSU in tackles with 96.

Starter or back-up - doesn’t matter much as they are losing a good player and their depth. Sad he’s injured, but FYS as a team.
September 5th, 2022 at 8:24 PM ^
MSU fans were calling him a starter and were saying he looked great before the injury, fwiw
Henderson would be a really big loss too
September 6th, 2022 at 9:06 AM ^
late replying to this, but yeah he's a huge loss for us.
He's our starting (only?) hybrid space player type object. Moved from safety this offseason. We played some 4-2-5 on Friday night with him as one of the 2 LBs. Once he went out it was more traditional LBs (Haladay, Brule) along side STARTING LB BEN VANSUMEREN.
I'm more worried though about the loss of Xavier Henderson, because I think Grose is bad, so losing the one good Safety and relying more on the guy I'm not too high on is scary.
Definitely not fun to lose your two most vocal leaders on defense in the 1st half of the 1st game.

I thought Van Sumeren transferred again? Wishing him good health but otherwise nothing but the worst.

Hope they get better soon full and safe recovery.

For those unfamiliar ...

Now those are guys I’ve heard of.
September 5th, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
Thank you. I wondered the degree of seperation from Percy. In the 90's, my sister was a server at The Olive Garden at State and Eisenhower. After a Michigan game, a group of guys that ended up including Percy Snow was assigned to her section. They were the most polite, thoughtful, and well tipping patrons she had that day/week/month. My sister joked wirh them that her little brother would kill her for waiting on Spartans..Anywho...
Fast forward a few years. Percy is in the NFL, and came to the UM/MSU game as a fan. He went to Olive Garden, hoping to find my sister. She had since moved on, but the hostess was good friends with my sister. He had brought a signed Percy Snow trading card for her yo give to me. And I still have it.
(And no, because I know you guys, she assures me that they didn't hook up in any way.) CSB!
September 5th, 2022 at 9:27 PM ^
I looked, and I still have the card! He signed it in red pen, which eww.

(Yes they did.)
September 5th, 2022 at 9:37 PM ^
Any relation to Jon?
September 5th, 2022 at 11:19 PM ^
I don’t want it
September 6th, 2022 at 6:12 AM ^
+1 I laughed.
September 5th, 2022 at 8:15 PM ^
Don't like it. Don't like it at all. Their defense was already shit - wanted to beat them down at full strength. Don't want any Sharty excuses.
Also shitty for the players. Work all off season waiting to play 12 or so games and then miss out.
I remember how shitty I felt for Ronnie Bell last year.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:10 PM ^
Cool see the whole crowd cheer when Ronnie caught his first pass! “Welcome back, we missed you!”
September 5th, 2022 at 8:19 PM ^
Tough break for Sparty - these are two versatile, good tacklers on their D. Maybe 2 of the 4 most important players on that D. Never want to see any injuries, so Godspeed to both guys,
September 5th, 2022 at 8:32 PM ^
I feel bad for both players.
September 5th, 2022 at 8:51 PM ^
Tough shit
September 5th, 2022 at 10:39 PM ^
Gtfoh with that classless bullshit.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:19 PM ^
Somehow if Michigan had lost Junior Colson and Rod Moore against CSU you wouldn't be happy with someone saying "tough shit" to you as a response.
September 6th, 2022 at 1:26 AM ^
Shut your whore mouth! Do not threaten the gods with your BS examples
September 6th, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
I mean, I probably wouldn't visit MSU blogs for happy making responses under those circumstances. I feel bad for the kid-- nobody (well almost nobody) deserves to get injured. But I don't have any sympathy for that program or fanbase at all.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:30 PM ^
Stinks for both players especially in 1st game of the season. Heal up guys!
September 6th, 2022 at 1:10 AM ^
I peeped UM and MSU schedule, and state has a bye the week before the Paul Bunyan game on 10/29 for the second straight year.
“If I had a nickel for every time that’s happened, I’d have two nickels, but it’s weird that it happened twice.”
EDIT: corrected an error pointed out by duke of zhou
September 6th, 2022 at 6:13 AM ^
Michigan beat Northwestern 33-7 the week before they played MSU last year. MSU had a bye, though.
September 6th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
Brain fart on my part - still peculiar state got one two years running.
September 6th, 2022 at 5:09 AM ^
Henderson should be back by Michigan it sounds like. But Minnesota, OSU and Wisconsin are going to be tougher for them without Henderson.
September 6th, 2022 at 11:05 AM ^
I don’t know why, but when a player of a hated opponent goes down there’s a little voice in me that says “good”, but that only lasts a millisecond. Then I go all human and realize these kids make so many sacrifices to be on the team, to be on the field. Getting injured is an obvious risk for a football player but it stinks when a season-ending injury happens. I feel badly for Darius Snow.
