OT: Movies that you're embarrassed to admit you love.

Beauty and the Beast was nominated for an Oscar. Not the "animated" category, the whole shebang Best Picture. There's nothing embarrassing about liking that movie.

...I took the kids to Frozen on Ice. The girls loved it, but I was regretting not bringing a flask to get through the night.

Anyone who doesn't rate Aladdin as one of the all-time great Disney movies is a self-deluded 2% milk-guzzler.
January 19th, 2016 at 11:16 AM ^
The Lion King is my all-time favorite Disney film followed by Aladdin. Robin Williams is who makes that movie excellent. Genie is one of the all-time great characters in movies.
January 19th, 2016 at 11:49 AM ^
I saw an interview with Williams and he said they had about 2 or 3 miles of footage that they couldn't use cuz ah Disney. They just said fuck the script and turned him loose. I would so love to see some of that.
January 19th, 2016 at 11:24 AM ^
Look, the songs are terrific, some of Disney's best ever. But the actual movie...is pretty half-baked.
January 19th, 2016 at 5:51 AM ^
Not embarassed about the movie but kind of embarassed that I signed up for HBO now for the sole purpose of watching the Godfather epic when I watch Godfather 1 or 2 at least once every 6 months.

to beat the quality of Godfather 1 and 2. They were made so well and I never tire of watching them. A lot of good movies since they were made but I have to say to me anyway, I consider them the best ever. And like I said you never tire of them.
January 19th, 2016 at 9:40 AM ^
I always wondered how that movie would've fared if Godfather 1 and 2 weren't so brilliantly made. Rocky V was pure garbage, but I thought Godfather 3 may have suffered from coming after two epic movies. Seems like on its own, the movie was at least decent. But tied to the other movies made it not a fair fight in the perception game.
January 19th, 2016 at 2:23 PM ^
never fit the series. Godfather 2 was seemless following 1. They were made beautifully.
GF 3 was just kind of a mess that was suppose to finish it, but just did not deliver.

Driving Miss Daisy. I will deny I ever have said this and if I am confronted with such accusations I will ask you where you heard this? If you are going to be honest you will have to reply the Internet, so no one will believe you anyway. So there.

50 First Dates - I like most Adam Sandler movies.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:38 AM ^
That actually isn't too bad of a movie. I would not go out of my way to watch it again, but it's not bad. As for his other movies, I think most are terrible. Adam was at his best when he was doing his sketch albums.

That's the one where I discovered Emma Stone. My life has been better since. In an alternative universe I would marry that woman on the spot.

I'm with you on that. I was actually watching Jingle All The Way sometime in December. I was just browsing the guide for something random to watch, came across it, and said, "Eh, fuck it. This is a funny movie." So, I watched it. I forgot that the kid who played young Anakin Skywalker is in that.

Ha. Mine is The Natural because the Glen Close scenes are so painful to watch.

doc hollywood because it resonates with leaving socal and living in a rural place.
mr. destiny, which is a modern adaptation of 'its a wonderful life', because when i was at michigan i was disappointed about how little hockey i got to play, but now 35+ years later, i can't imagine how anything could've gone better than it has.

Doc Hollywood is a fantastic movie. While I do live in South Dakota, there are times when it seems life would be a lot easier living in Grady, South Carolina (particularly during the squash festival)

Tom Hanks is awesome in "A League of Their Own" but, yeah, that is a pretty embarassing movie which I like as well.
I think my selection would be "When Harry Met Sally", I usually detest RomComs but I absolutley love that particular movie.

It's one of those female empowerment "chick flicks" so the target audience really seems to be women. If you are male (I am), it's a little bit embarassing to admit you like it. I agree that it is a very enjoyable movie, though.
January 19th, 2016 at 7:03 AM ^
That movie is awesome and so is 'female empowerment'

in our country's history when men were not around to play ball, so women picked up the bat and entertained, including my Grandma.
Quit being sexist and try to feel more comfortable in your manly skin.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:18 AM ^
I feel most comfortable in my manly skin inside a female's skin....it puts the lotion in the basket or else it gets the hose again.

The wife and I guess we've seen this one over 50 times, minimum. Another is Something's Gotta Give. Jack playing Jack, well until the end. Jack would never cry standing on a bridge in Paris over any chick!

Love Actually -
especially when the British guy goes to Milwaukee in the belief that American girls love any guy with a British accent. He ends up in bed with 3 of them naked because they are too poor to even afford pajamas
January 19th, 2016 at 8:04 AM ^
THIS.
And two of those three girls are January Jones and Elisha Cuthbert. Their 2002 versions when the film was made, mind you.

it has both John and Joan Cusack! Part love story (with Minnie Driver) and part hit man flick. Plus, it takes place near Detroit.
