OT - MOST ODIOUS OT: Your Felonious Relative(s)

Submitted by lexus larry on

As we have seen during these dog days of summer, the OT posts have run the gamut. Here is my contribution – the most felonious relative (near or far) to each of us.

Those of you in the Detroit area have been aware of a bribery scandal at the Detroit Public Schools (DPS) involving 13 school principals. Almost all of the individuals involved have plead guilty, been sentenced, been fined and are serving time in prisons sprinkled throughout the Midwest.

Not my sister. (Thankfully, her last name is different from mine, so I haven’t been hounded by the media for the inevitable “tell us about her criminal youth” interviews! LOL)

When this first broke in late March 2016, my brother said, “watch your sister try to get on TV and plead her innocence.” Close enough.

Well, she was convicted in December during a jury trial, sentenced to 2 years in the slam on June 2nd, appealed a week later and asked to be allowed to stay outta jail until the appeal is heard.

Of course, the fact that the original date to arrive at Alderson was her 52nd birthday may have had something to do with the request to put it off for a few weeks. Her personality is such that I haven’t wanted much to do with her since we were teens (I’m her older brother).

She’ll be staying here. Many notable alumna!

That’s my most (and only) felonious relative. Who’s yours, and what's their backstory?

I think the OP will eventually regret posting this, and a sports board doesn't seem to be the place to shame relatives for their misdeeds.  Especially by specifically identifying them in a linked news article.

I mean that as unsolicited advice to the OP, for him to do with as he will.  But it seems that no profit comes to him or his family from posting this material.

I think my family has only gotten in trouble for drug things. My brother was a stupid teenager who thought he could make a quick buck by "delivering" a "package" and the cops caught him. The prosecutor wanted to make an example of him, but he was a model citizen while on probation and doing community service, so he got off with nothing serious. My white trash, meth addict cousin is the only one that I think actually did real jail time. She was doing weekend jail for a bit for robbery related to drugs, but then got caught again so had to do full time jail. After she got out she went to visit my aunt (cousin was in jail in Texas, aunt lives in Florida) and spent the whole time on downers in her room. At one point she yelled at her mom, "You think I'm on drugs, don't you??" To which aunt replied, "I certainly hope you are, because otherwise why are you acting like this?"

I have a nephew in his early 20s who was charged with 1st degree home invasion, pled guilty to 2nd degree home invasion, and spent 6 months in jail.  My brother has been a bit vague about his son's recent activity but is implying he's not on the straight and narrow, I think preparing me for the liklihood that he will end up back in jail.

A cousin of mine has a wayward son in his early 20s who's been in and out of jail for drug-related activities. My mom has a cousin whose son is in the state prison (Jackson) for his role in a drive-by shooting.

First of all, congratulations to you for overcoming that family background.  It's good to not let the egregious misdeeds of your parents define for you a life of crime.  Here's to breaking the cycle.

Second, perhaps this is the source of your obvious interest in video.  That's grade-A sublimation, right there.

Third, I hope you've been able to forgive your mom.  And I hope it gives you some peace sharing this.

My cousin stole my grandmother's checkbook and tried to cash a check he'd written to himself for $10,000. Believe it or not, the bank looked rather skeptically at a shifty 30-year-old covered in tattoos trying to walk out with $10,000 in cash. He spent a couple years in lockup for that one.

As someone descended from a long line of gamblers, privateers and mercenaries, I probably have too many people in my family's past - when you consider both sides of it - to list and then discuss in this forum. Needless to say, some of the more famous historic misdeeds, including participation in a mutiny and an uprising, are detailed in some history books.

My cousin was over the limit, driving on a suspended license for DUI, and rear ended someone.  The person he rear ended just so happened to be a cop......who was in his police car.

He could have killed someone, so it was good to see him get what he deserved which was a first class ticket to a jail cell.

Brother-in-law got popped for a 3x the limit DUI. His brother is a state trooper and got it down to careless driving with AA for 12 months and a year of probation. My two cousins are a treat: older one got popped for letting teenagers into the beer cooler from the street so they could steal $5k in product. Her little sister got popped for heroin distribution, but her boyfriend took the fall for her.
