As an Angels fan, let me just say: WORTH IT.

Mike Trout is on pace to be a top-five player all time. He is the first player with 150 HRs and 150 stolen bases before he turned 26. He has the second highest WAR for any player his age (only second to Ty Cobb).  I could go on, but its easier just to say: he's good.

ALSO: the Angels are building him a support cast. True, they should have been doing this since he first came up, but the Angels farm system is a year away from unleashing some pretty darn good players-- Jo Adell, Griffen Canning, Brandon Marsh, Jahmai Jones, Jose Suarez-- to go along with Shohei, Upton, and a solid (if unspectacular) group of pitchers.

I am happy as a clam right now.

No one knows what the sports landscape will even look like by the time Trouts contract is up. It's possible that he's incredibly durable and is worth every dollar through the end of his contract. It's also more likely the amount of value he's going to give the Angels through the next 5-6 years is worth the entirety of the contract, and extending the deal allows them a little more financial wiggle room to maximize their ability to compete in his prime.

There's a very realistic chance that Trout can potentially contend to have the most hits of all time and the most home runs of all time, and also steal 400 bases. Since his rookie season, the only time he finished outside the top 2 in MVP voting was 2017, where he was injured for 50 games and still finished 4th.

I don't care how much players make but hate super-long contracts like that.  I wish the CBA included a maximum length for contracts.  10-12 year contracts are virtually guaranteed to become albatrosses down the road.

Pretty absurd at face value, especially considering all of it is guaranteed, but if that's what the market says he's worth, then the Angels need to go for it. He's the best all-around player in baseball.

That being said, if the Angels get through the next 12 years without having at least one World Series banner to their name, then you have to wonder how big a mistake this would be. The Angels have not even been to a World Series with Trout, much less won one. And how hamstrung is the organization still going to be, financially, until Pujols' contract finishes? Which still has another three years on it, if memory serves. I wonder if this is a situation where they're just telling themselves to wait out these next three years so they can free up some money, and then spend the next nine years surrounding Trout with as much talent as they can get.

I’ll stick to watching the Whitecaps if I want to see a ballgame live, better family experience and I don’t really care to see a guy like Trout go 2-4 with a double and HR for $500

You go to White Caps games because it is geographically convenient for you. I used to live in GR and found myself attending more minor league sporting events than major league sporting events...go figure!

Honestly - this is such a bad move by Trout. I know I know largest contract ever. Dude doesn’t want the spotlight or the pressure of the big market teams. He could of gotten over $500 if he waited and went to a contender. I live here in So cal and the Angels are and always will be a place where players go to die. It’s a dumpster fire there and I am kinda upset he didn’t wait till free agency. His lifetime 2-3 hits in the playoffs I guess don’t matter to him. Disappointing

These contract amounts are sense overload. These athletes could give away 100 million dollars and not even feel it.

If anyone in baseball deserves it, it's him. That being said, it blows my mind the amount of money these organizations are willing to pay for one player.
