OT -- MGoGolfers
MGoGolfers out there,
I am going to be coming back to Ann Arbor (for the first time in a decade and a half) over the 4th of July weekend. I am planning on playing the UMGC early on Saturday, July 5th and as of yet am a single. If anyone is in town then, can get away, and wants to play $100 1-Downs (J/K), let me know I'd love the company.
I am sure most you know that the UMGC was designed by the legendary Alister MacKenzie whose designed include: Crystal Downs, Royal Melbourn (West), Pasatiempo, and a little course called Augusta National. The UMGC has been called a "Hidden Jewel" by golf writers and to my mind is one of the greatest in-town courses in the world.
I spoke with the shop and they said Saturday is wide open, so if we get more than 4 we can have a few groups of MGoGolfers should we need to.
Are we allowed to put our personal emails on a post?
Anyway, drop me a line if you're interested.
Sten
I don't live by many principles, but two of the most fundamental ones for me are:
1) I don't play golf with people who spell course "cource".
2) I don't do anything with people named Sten.
Nothing against you personally, but I think you can understand why I can't join you.
Of course.
Want to play golf sometime?
I don't understand, but given your snarky comments, I am pleased you not interested in playing -- although I would like to take your money. Typos happen from time to time, especially when one is trying to multi-task.
do NOT typo!!
/s
If only I were there I'd love to play a round at UMGC but alas I'm here on the east coast of Canada. Good luck getting a group together and I hope whoever goes has a great time (and of course scores well too). Have fun!
are we allowed to post emails?
That you create a new email address in gmail that does not contain your name and seek responses to that address, but you apparently have already disclosed your real identity.
Or have I? Maybe I am just an obsessed fan.
your boss initially did not give you that raise you were counting on, and instead gave you the gift that keeps on giving...
It's pertty simple really.
Foreskyn is a snarky jackass, a member of the spelling police, apparently discriminates against people named Sten -- whether his bigotry extends to all people with nordic names is, at this point, unknown -- and I am wondering if anyone from MGoBlog would like to play golf at the UMGC next week.

That course kicked my ass a couple weeks ago. I was always more of a Huron Hills kind of guy when I lived in AA.
I've heard that they've redone Leslie Park GC since I left in 1997 -- always liked that course too -- did they redo Huron Hills too?
UMGC is amazingly difficult, especially if the rough is up and the greens are fast -- which they almost always are. MacKenzie's design demands pin-point accuracy on the approach shots, a great short-game, and ridiculously good lag putt as you WILL have a few crazy putts.
Personally, I think the most striking feature of the course is the collection of tees and greens in the center of the property -- I've never seen anything like it anywhere else in the world.
Huron Hills is still pretty much a dump...but we used to play their early season twilight starting at 3 or 4 pm for $10 and get in a full 18 holes. Can't beat that!
Leslie Park had some renovations that went into play last season, entirely on the back 9. Holes 10-13 underwent some pretty major changes, as they re-routed the creek that runs through there. Some nice stone wall additions, a couple bridges here and there, etc. They've shortened #10 (new tee boxes farther forward)... good for me, as that hole is my nemesis. #11 is still a bit unstable after the reno... some areas under repair, a bit messy/muddy after rain. (Too bad... I love this hole.) They also did some stone wall work around the pond on #17. All in all, some nice work with these changes, and overall the course was in pretty darn good shape when I played it last week...especially given the brutal winter we had. I absolutely love the course.
Huron Hills...I've only been playing for 5 years, and there have been no changes during that time. They allow carts now (it used to be a walking-only course, I guess?). And I agree with goblueram... it's kinda a dump, and over-priced (unless you get a deal of some sort).
It is as public as public courses come.
UMGC? You have to have at least one eligible person in your group (student, alum, fac/staff, and certain donor levels). Not completely public, although anyone can pay for a membership in the Trueblood Club and get access.
Just played there for the first time ever. (Was in school 15 years ago). Brought my father-in-law for his birthday. Great course for beginners (me) and more talented golfers (F-I-L). BUT.... for all of Brandon's cash-grabs... note that the course does not sell alcohol. To me, that is an essential piece of golfing. No cart-girls? Makes no sense to me.
really bad golfers that keep up with pace?
