OT: Larkin Leads Wings to 3 Straight Wins
The Wings have won three straight after a rough start. Larkin has 6 points over that stretch.
Howard on Larkin:
“He’s been tremendous for us this year. He’s one of our best players night in and night out. He’s been flying, creating a lot of havoc in the offensive zone and been really responsible in the defensive zone. He’s made so many great strides. We all knew how special a player he was when he was coming in.”

Is that their only 3 wins this season? They have been horrible when I tried to watch them earlier. Bring back Stevie Y! Holland is an idiot.

They only have one other win outside of this three game streak. They’ve looked a lot better since getting their veteran defensive core back.
Will they compete for the playoffs? Probably not.
Should Stevie replace Kenny next year? I really hope so.
Is this a fun team to watch when they’re winning? Yep.
The pieces are there for the future. Some of these young guys look really promising.

Thanks. Maybe I will give them another look soon.

You can normally see whether they have it or not in the first period. Past few games have been fun. Mantha is engaged. Larkin is on fire. Rasmussen scored his first goal and then his 2nd in consecutive games last night. Cholowski is arguably our best defenseman, which is great to see.
When they win, they are doing so on the backs of the kids. And it's everything we wanted with the rebuild.
When they lose, well it's one step closer to Jack Hughes.

i do think they have a solid core of young players to build off of. but man they have some horrible contracts that need to come to an end

My only beef with this is that they are fun to watch even when they're not winning. As young players tend to do, they sometimes try to do too much, which leads to a lot of action. Sometimes good, sometimes not. But compared to years past when Babs and Blash kept the handcuffs on everybody, this season has been a breath of fresh air.

I disagree. He has done a tremendous job the past couple seasons. He deserves to finish this rebuild. I agree he should not be allowed to extend veterans but as far as trades go and drafting he has done a good job. I want Stevie back as well but Holland is doing a good job.

Get outta here Ken.

Really hurting the lose for Hughes campaign.

You are talking Jack or Quinn? Quinn was drafted by Vancouver. Jack is the #1 prospect. I wouldnt turn down a player like Jack but the Wings need D badly if ya ask me, more than another center. The top two D are ranked 7 and 10.
One other thing is the Wings need to get bigger and Jack is 5'10 168.
So with that said Id rather watch an improving young team that is exciting and picks in the 5-10 range than a dog that finishes with the worst record in hockey.

This is the Jack Hughes draft and he is a generational talent. Wings have a shot and should tank by trading Howard along with playing more kids. Even though they need defense, can’t pass on Hughes.

The Red Wings need talent at all positions. They will be in BPA mode for a while still.

I would rather have the kids on the team now show flashes and develop. We are going to get a good pick regardless.

This is not how you tank, fellas.

Should have had an early goal in the 1st tonight too but the ref blew the whistle too soon...

Larkin has been very impressive so far this year both from a playing (14pts, 13 games) and leadership standpoint. They even show little leadership teasers about him during commercials like we need convincing that he'll be the C next year. I also think Cholowski is the real deal. He moves the puck extremely well for a 20 year old and is, thus far, our best defenseman. His pass tonight to Nyquist that set up Rasmussen's goal was perfect and he's stretched it out a few times this year in that manner.
This team's lows are LOW and I'm not expecting a great season but I enjoy watching these guys fly around and can definitely see glimpses of what I hope is a fruitful next couple of years.

It’s still early, but Cholowski should be in Calder contention if he keeps up this pace for points. He’s looked incredible.

I know he is easy to overlook especially given the contract but I really think that Mike Green is doing some good things for the team. He has faults but his composure with the puck on a team with many young players is valuable.

The speed from the youngsters is evident and fun to watch night in and night out. Ideal scenario is that Kenny H leads us to the #1 overall pick and Stevie Y selects young Hughes as his first act as our new GM. LGRW!

With our luck, the Wings could have by far the worst record in the league, then come in last in the draft selection lottery. I would blame even that calamity on Holland.
November 2nd, 2018 at 10:46 AM ^
Yeah I don't trust us to win the lottery even with the worst record. Though maybe Gary could freeze the envelope for us.

The last place team only has an 18.5% chance of getting the 1st pick. Only 50% chance the last place team picks in the top 3 (worst case is the 4th pick).
The Wings could use a little draft luck for a chance. Hasn't happened in a long time.

I've watched every game this year and I think they deserve your attention. They play a really good brand of hockey. They've had one really bad game, but the rest have been competitive with just a few break downs that killed them.
They had a rough start, but I would attribute that to 4 injured veteran defenseman (3,000+ games played) being replaced by 4 rookies (22 games played) basically. Plus, they had a really difficult schedule to start the season that included trips to LA for back to back games and South Florida against a really good Lightning team.
Larkin has really been the catalyst, played 23.5 minutes ( a lot for a Forward) the other night and it was probably his best game as a pro. Dominant.
Key is to watch without expectation. Are they winning the cup? No. Are they playing competitive hockey with a really young lineup, for sure.

Dylan Larkin will be the next Red Wings captain.
