OT: John Geddert (Gymnastics Coach, Nassar Adjacent) Charged
John Geddert was finally charged today, AG Nessel announced. He was the coach at Twistars who worked with Nassar and was the verbally/physically/mentally abusive (mostly) asshole who broke the girls' psyches. Then Nassar would be the good cop and win their trust so he could abuse them sexually. He also knew about Nassar's abuse, ignored it, and lied to police about it. But that's just one of the charges!
The other 23 are:
20 counts of trafficking for profit and trafficking to cause injury. Basically threatening girls with bodily harm if they didn't do what he said, which either made him money for being associated with big important gymnasts and ultimately the Olympic team or caused the girls' injury or both.
One count of racketeering (for the above)
And because he is also a sexually abusive monster, one count of first degree sexual assault and one count of second degree sexual assault. With a girl between 13 and 16.

My older boy had a hockey tournament in the Lansing area last year. Some of the games were at a facility called 'The Summit,' which actually houses Twistars (or at least A Twistars..not sure if there are multiple locations). I didn't really think about it at the time, but as I was killing time between games i would wander in there and check out the pictures on the wall and just the facility as a whole. They had a whole bunch of pictures of smiling and happy gymnasts, including olympian Jordan Wieber. It wasn't until I googled the place that I realized the connection to Nasser. Our tournament ended on a Sunday and the facility was actually raided by the FBI(?) on the Monday.

The Summit is actually closing down permanently now due to Covid, so maybe a good thing they board it up. It was a fantastic facility when first built, but the fact that it was used to abuse children is worth demolishing alone.

The Summit was a pretty good facility where my kids first learned to skate and did gymnastics. My family never interacted with the Gedderts and Nassar was already gone when we were there. As much as I appreciate what we got out of there, these can't be the institutions we maintain and I am glad we no longer go there.

True. There's also comfort in knowing the girls they abused wont have to testify at his trial and relive the memories of the shit they had to endure at the hands of these monsters.

True, I used to work with S/A victims daily and there are some where the trial and testifying against the people who assaulted and traumatized them helps them heal and seek some closure, everyone is different but your point stands as well.
