OT: Joey Bosa Shows Some Buckeye Class on Twitter

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Joey Bosa picked a really good time - the NFL Combine - to show that he can't take any criticism on Twitter. He told his critics that "I'll be retired when I'm 35 and you'll be slaving away to pay back student loan debt."

I'm sure that all his fans who are slaving away to pay back student loan dept are reassured to know that Joey Bosa will constantly remind them that he's a superior human being.

Then, for some reason, he Tweeted a picture of his dinner.

Does it sound good?  No.

Does it make him look good? No

Is it totally understandable that a public figure receiving unsolicited garbage due to the "advantages" of social media lashes out due to frustation?  Yes

Should he learn to let that go? Yes

It isn't the best look, but who really cares.  And isn't there an adage about it isn't bragging/talking trash if you can back it up?

He's also unlikely to be broke as some have posited here.  Yes, it seems to afflict a large majority of NFL and NBA players but he comes from a family where his dad and uncle played in the NFL.  He'll probably get good advice on how to sock some of that dough away.

Is it fun for you guys to disparage him because he played at OSU and project that to all OSU athletes/alumni/fans?  Of course, how else does fandom work.  We return it just the same, and as long as it can be done in fun that's great.

Would you guys have loved him if he played for your team? Abso-fucking-lutely.  Just like if Aaron Craft played for you guys, or Zeke, or Orlando Pace.  You'd love them.  If Charles Woodson *throws up in mouth a little bit* played for OSU, we'd deify him too.

Is it a sign of intellect when I ask questions? No, I think it's not.

Am I personally annoyed by people who make their arguments by using Q&A format?                 I do find it a bit grating

Would it be preferred if a person could state their point in a well wriiten post?   I believe we would all be better off.

Is there a reason that I visualize you with your OSU baseball hat on backwards?  Probably because I live in Ohio

...and he will be dead, mentally impared or have some crippled limbs by the time he is 50, while the "student loan" gang will be thriving entreprenuers with great familes and many happy years to live.

And if he played for Michigan, we'd all be praising him for schooling some internet troll.

Yeah the guy is apparently a douchebag from what I've heard about him, but I don't think he was too out of line for responding the way he did. Barring some injury or absolute bonehead moves on his part, he's a couple months away from being a millionaire. Of course whether or not he pans out and ends up having a successful 15 year career remains to be seen.

Fair enough, but I do think taunting somebody over student loans is a pretty low blow. It's not to the level of a racial or ethic slur. But there is a definite socioeconomic/class-based aspect to who really suffers from student loan debt. So it's very unbecoming for a person like Bosa, who's been dealt a pretty nice hand in life, to belittle someone for bearing the burdens of a more difficult path.

I get the richest often don't have studen loans.  I didn't qualify in that group but I am lucky enough to not have had any.

Having said that, student loans are pretty wide spread from poor to upper middle class.  I don't know if there is such a definitive socioeconomic/class based aspect to them anymore.

In the case of the athletes, of which he is one and received his scholly because he was one, very often come from the lowest rungs of the economic classes.  Not in his case, but most are.

Not to pop Bosa's bubble, but being an NFL palyer and retiring at 35 isn't a ticket to financial well-being even if you don't buy the doom-and-gloom 78% bankrupt number within a couple of years that was thrown around.  So yeah, you might be slaving away paying off your loans, but at least they are for a degree that is enabling you to do so.  Being really good at playing football doesn't necessarily translate to being paid for that when you can't do it as well anymore, and I'm going out on a limb that Joey Bosa wasn't pushing himself all too hard in the classroom while in Columbus.

35, huh? That's quite a long career at a position which turns over quite quickly. He's a kid who is about to get very rich. A little conceit is to be expected. But, a little social media coaching and PR training is also to be expected. Doing shit like this could cost him endorsements. My guess: this is a guy who will not take advantage of the resources the NFL puts at players' disposal, and makes at least one serious mistake which would have been totally avoidable.

If the fanboys here would tell Michigan players the same things about their futures--you know, the pooping your pants, washed up at 35, broke by 45, broken body, mind and spirit--or does this just happen to the players who don't go to Michigan?

Brian Cook--you must be proud of this board and what it's become. But at least you're making a good buck off it.

Joey will probably have so much money that he'll be able to customize his poop cooler with gold.

Kidding aside, I won't be surprised if he becomes a bust in the pros.
