OT - Jamal Crawford Retires
Our very own Jamal Crawford who played 20 seasons in the NBA for over 9 teams has officially retired. I know he barely played for us but he was drafted in the lottery and was a very productive player. He won 3, 6th man of the year awards and is second all time in points off the bench.
Enjoy retirement Jamal, Go Blue!

I imagine this whole post as though Jamal Crawford is saying it and talking about himself in the 3rd person.
I do remember the very first maize rage at Crisler wearing headbands in his honor in 1999. But that was year 3 of Brian Ellerbe and....ugh...let's not relive those seasons otherwise.
Josh Asselin and Brandon Smith in the background there.
the baggiest unis ever
I really like those jerseys. The simple block M with blue trim is understated but attractive.
Totally agreed. I know I am in the minority here but I loved those unis.
I can’t say I agree about liking those unis….but in my middle school days I did have a sweet Lavall Blanchard jersey in that style so the nostalgia is great…although I wouldn’t want them to go back.
Highlighter!
(Both Jamal Crawford and the uniform color)
I was one of those Maize Ragers, headband and all. Will never forget the confusion and disappointment surrounding his participation (or more specifically, lack thereof) in the home game against msu. Word did not travel particularly fast in those days.
Good on him for the career he’s had.
For a brief moment, we had good things. Love the headband and yes I too was confused about MSU and the rest of the sad, sad ending.
He also went to the same high school in Seattle (Ranier Beach) that football prospect Josh Conerly, Jr. goes to. Maybe Harbaugh should give him a job with a very specific job description.
He may have only played a couple dozen games in a Michigan uniform, but he still qualifies as a Michigan "product" -- and therefore ranks as the the highest scoring Michigan product in the NBA of all time. It's too bad he never got the chance to reach 20,000 points or crack the NBA top 50 -- he was about 150 points away when the Nets signed him at the beginning of the 2020 bubble season. Alas, he pulled a muscle (as happens to 40 year olds) after about 5 minutes.
I was at the 2OT game in West Lafayette, which I guess was the highlight of Crawford's time at Michigan.
Carson Cummingham really did look like Eddie Munster.
Fun fact: it was Jamal Crawford (with Michael Jordan's face digitally superimposed) who played young Jordan in this commercial, at Jordan's personal request.
Another fun fact, I believe Crawford and Tom Brady were on campus at the same time.
There is no believe. It is true!
Most 4 point plays in NBA history IIRC...
Really a good guy and very well respected by the other players. NBA icon on and off the court. He had style and swag. I heard him on a podcast and he really spoke highly of his short time at Michigan even with all the controversy. He said he grew up a Michigan fan and I think he said he committed without even a visit!
I am always impressed by his kind words toward MIchigan. The NCAA/press played him as a mercenary, bought and paid for but apparently, he really is a MICHIGAN man.
Professional scorer.
Buckets galore.
Always loved Crawford as a pro with his filthy handles and nice shot.
He was, however, before my time of watching Michigan basketball. Can someone explain why he’s rarely brought up?
His eligibility in his one season here was cut short by NCAA suspension resulting from a non family member giving him benefits in HS. Did terrible things like allow him to live in a safe place (a room in the dude’s house), buy him clothes and gave him a used car to drive. He also tried to declare for the draft in HS, which wasn’t allowed … so apparently even just trying was suspension-extension worthy when the NCAA heard about it later.
So he ended up playing here like half of a season. He was really good in that half season though.
