OT-ish: Lynn Henning Doesn't Understand Independent Trials

"Notre Dame under Brian Kelly isn't a good bet to go 1-2 in its first three games. That's why Michigan's stunner over the Irish last Saturday made life doubly difficult for the Spartans entering Saturday's get-together in East Lansing.
There's also some pretty great whinging about MSU not getting enough attention.

"Notre Dame under Brian Kelly isn't a good bet to go 1-2 in its first three games."

Wow -- he's got both hands on the Brian Kelly Kool Aid pitcher, doesn't he?

Ah yes, Dwayne T. Robinson.  Paul Gleason actually appeared in quite few movies before he died.  Mainly supporting roles, which is why most people don't usually realize he's even many movies (or TV shows).  Obviously, his best known role was in The Breakfast Club.

Beat the Irish, as MSU should do Saturday night, and do it in a way that makes clear this team has all the talent and crunch on both sides of the football that it absolutely possesses.

Then finish off Northern Colorado next week and prepare thyself for a mountain of pre-game chatter and coverage ahead of what will be the biggest big game of the Big Ten season's first five weeks: Wisconsin at Michigan State on Oct. 2 at Spartan Stadium.

Is it just me, or does anyone else thing it's not just entirely possible, but likely, that MSU will go into the MSU-Michigan game with two losses?

I used to attribute Henning's relative statements concerning Michigan and MSU to his love of baseball and ignorance concerning other sports.  After reading this column, it is apparent that he likes MSU a lot more than Michigan.

How many variations of "MSU is underrated and Michigan is overrated" can he get away with turning in?  It's the same shit over and over.   His editor should do an intervention here.

I care about regarding MSU at all is when they finally set a date to reclaim those seconds Spartan Bob added to the game from him to fill the void in time that occured.

My favorite bit in this particular article is when he says that how Sparty played in the first two games is irrelevant but then goes on to say that the played a decent WMU and more than decent FAU.

How can the the WHO they played be important when the HOW they played is not?

... Somebody posted a Wojo article earlier and it's occured to me why I only like him.  He gets that humor is really the last safe place for MSM sports columnists.  They are so far removed from facts -- too thinly spread out across too many topics -- they cannot articulate an intelligent point of view without being challenged by a fanbase more aware then they are.

Thank you very large, (a little joke at Wojo's expense there, but it's a small joke, since I don't want him to go all neg-bombing all over the place on U-M).

I think you're on to something re: MSM sports columnists. Too much going on, too few hours in the day to be really informed.

And, some are just dumb shits. And there aren't enough characters available in this comment section to name all of them.

To understand this reporter you have to remember that he was "chewed out" by Tom Izzo for being negative when Izzo considered tha Cavs. He is trying to get back in the good graces of the MSU athletic department. Izzo broke him and any integrity he had.....

Henning is strongest when writing about baseball.  And his baseball columns are horrible.

His work reminds me of what sports journalism would be like if they let my grandma write guest columns.  He displays, at the very most, casual knowledge of sports.

Perfect example, the first line of this article...

"Michigan State's unbeaten and no one seems to know it."

Umm, that might be because it's mid-September and there are about 50 undefeated other teams, Grandma...

about the Sparties getting "oceans of attention" if they beat ND.

The press will be talking about Kelly's slow start at ND and what this bodes for ND's remaining games and if Michigan's win is now not that impressive and should they drop in the polls?

MSU will not squeak in the top 25 if they win.

Henning also says:

This year's Spartans are different, for two reasons: They have actual talent and depth on offense and defense.

Seriously, how many times have we heard this over the years?

This might be the stupidest article I've ever read.

He can't carry as often as he has been carrying and not get injured.

Not if percentages and physics follow their usual probabilities.

Huh? Care to share those "percentages", "physics", and "probabilities" with us, Lynn?

Clearly Miss Henning is ill-informed.  She has way more testosterone then I originally thought.

Seriously though, what a poorly written column by someone that hates all things Wolverine.  These people that are so high on BK make me sick.  I remember a week or so ago Petros Papadakis was a guest on Jim Rome. They spoke about the Michigan and Notre Dame game and both said that Michigan had no chance in the game and that Brian Kelly had turned the program around in one game.  Then in his atrocious radio show this week he said that Michigan is a one man team that will start 5-0 and finish 5-7.  People like this exist, it's sad but true.  Lynn Henning is just another idiot that will be eating his words once the season has ended.
