OT-ish: Lynn Henning Doesn't Understand Independent Trials
"Notre Dame under Brian Kelly isn't a good bet to go 1-2 in its first three games. That's why Michigan's stunner over the Irish last Saturday made life doubly difficult for the Spartans entering Saturday's get-together in East Lansing. There's also some pretty great whinging about MSU not getting enough attention.
September 17th, 2010 at 1:35 PM ^
This is very OT. Thank god they talk about our rival Notre Dame in the post.

"Notre Dame under Brian Kelly isn't a good bet to go 1-2 in its first three games."
Wow -- he's got both hands on the Brian Kelly Kool Aid pitcher, doesn't he?
September 17th, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^
Dear MSU,
Beat someone and we will talk.
Sincerely,
the Top 25
September 17th, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^
he doesn't deserve to share the first three letters of his last name with Chad Henne. From now on, he shall be Lyn Ing.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:49 PM ^
let alone the first four letters.
September 17th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
NVM...
September 17th, 2010 at 1:43 PM ^
Wow. Lynn Henning is a guy? Really?
September 17th, 2010 at 1:56 PM ^
I was watching the first Die Hard movie the other night, and much to my surprise (I hadn't noticed this before) was that the actor playing the D-Bag LAPD guy who was hating on Carl Winslow, was in fact the same actor that played Clarence Beeks. Thought you'd be interested in that.
September 17th, 2010 at 1:59 PM ^
has played a lot of unintelligent douche nozzles over the years.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:33 PM ^
He was so good at it. He was a master at the pratfall.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:14 PM ^
Ah yes, Dwayne T. Robinson. Paul Gleason actually appeared in quite few movies before he died. Mainly supporting roles, which is why most people don't usually realize he's even many movies (or TV shows). Obviously, his best known role was in The Breakfast Club.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:10 PM ^
way to b an insensitive a-hole you d-bag.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:15 PM ^
Care to elaborate? I'm not sure what I said that was "insensitive". I do love the vigor in your post, though. I would try to harness that energy in a more productive manner, but that's just me.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:19 PM ^
saying Lyn is a name reserved for women.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
Where did I say that? Care to elaborate further?
September 17th, 2010 at 2:27 PM ^
you say "Lyn is a man?"
Go away troll.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:32 PM ^
Do you have excrement clogging the spaces between your neurons? Because, seriously, Beeks is one of the sharpest tacks on this board.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:48 PM ^
Thanks for the kind words, Njia. For a good laugh, I suggest a quick perusal of this: http://mgoblog.com/users/michisbestest. More or less explains why I'm even bothering to respond to this guy (or girl?).
September 17th, 2010 at 2:38 PM ^
I did say (essentially) what you've quoted there. How does that in any way mean that I'm saying that "Lyn (sic) is a name reserved for women"? Care to elaborate further still?
September 17th, 2010 at 4:45 PM ^
by expressing your utter idiocy ycoidi rettu ruoy gnisserpxe yb.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:41 PM ^
In your defense, I never really read any of Lynn's work before. I read the few blurbs posted on the boards and decided I didn't like her work. It wasn't until recently I figured out it was a dude. hahaha
September 17th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
Haha. Thanks. Yeah, that's essentially the same thing I was saying, without saying all of that. Unfortunately, our friend here with the negative MGoBoard IQ took that in an entirely different direction, and completely out of the context of what I meant.
September 17th, 2010 at 1:48 PM ^
Is it just me, or does anyone else thing it's not just entirely possible, but likely, that MSU will go into the MSU-Michigan game with two losses?
September 17th, 2010 at 1:51 PM ^
I used to attribute Henning's relative statements concerning Michigan and MSU to his love of baseball and ignorance concerning other sports. After reading this column, it is apparent that he likes MSU a lot more than Michigan.
How many variations of "MSU is underrated and Michigan is overrated" can he get away with turning in? It's the same shit over and over. His editor should do an intervention here.
September 17th, 2010 at 1:53 PM ^
I care about regarding MSU at all is when they finally set a date to reclaim those seconds Spartan Bob added to the game from him to fill the void in time that occured.
September 17th, 2010 at 1:55 PM ^
Lynn Henning does not understand.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:00 PM ^
My favorite bit in this particular article is when he says that how Sparty played in the first two games is irrelevant but then goes on to say that the played a decent WMU and more than decent FAU.
How can the the WHO they played be important when the HOW they played is not?
September 17th, 2010 at 2:07 PM ^
... Somebody posted a Wojo article earlier and it's occured to me why I only like him. He gets that humor is really the last safe place for MSM sports columnists. They are so far removed from facts -- too thinly spread out across too many topics -- they cannot articulate an intelligent point of view without being challenged by a fanbase more aware then they are.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
Thank you very large, (a little joke at Wojo's expense there, but it's a small joke, since I don't want him to go all neg-bombing all over the place on U-M).
I think you're on to something re: MSM sports columnists. Too much going on, too few hours in the day to be really informed.
And, some are just dumb shits. And there aren't enough characters available in this comment section to name all of them.

Henning is strongest when writing about baseball. And his baseball columns are horrible.
His work reminds me of what sports journalism would be like if they let my grandma write guest columns. He displays, at the very most, casual knowledge of sports.
Perfect example, the first line of this article...
"Michigan State's unbeaten and no one seems to know it."
Umm, that might be because it's mid-September and there are about 50 undefeated other teams, Grandma...
September 17th, 2010 at 2:09 PM ^
I thought there was a previous thread where we agreed to a moratorium on Lynn.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:19 PM ^
Honestly, he's too much fun to rip on.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:17 PM ^
about the Sparties getting "oceans of attention" if they beat ND.
The press will be talking about Kelly's slow start at ND and what this bodes for ND's remaining games and if Michigan's win is now not that impressive and should they drop in the polls?
MSU will not squeak in the top 25 if they win.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:18 PM ^
Henning also says:
September 17th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
Yeah that defensive backfield puts the Baltimore Ravens SB winning group to shame.
And yes, I'm well aware that our secondary isn't setting the world on fire.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:33 PM ^
It's the Great Spartan, Charlie Brown! He's coming! And he'll bring lots of victories and championships...

Linus is the quintessential little brother!
Someone needs to make a pic with a sparty mascot shadow head looming up over the pumpkin patch!
I almost spit my coffee up.

wouldn't this be four reasons? talent on offense, talent on defense, depth on offense, depth on defense
September 17th, 2010 at 2:30 PM ^
This might be the stupidest article I've ever read.
September 17th, 2010 at 2:45 PM ^
I think there've been enough posts on this site showing statistics of how the sheer number of carries (by both QBs and RBs) doesn't directly corellate to injuries.
But what are stats to a paid columnist?
September 17th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
Clearly Miss Henning is ill-informed. She has way more testosterone then I originally thought.
Seriously though, what a poorly written column by someone that hates all things Wolverine. These people that are so high on BK make me sick. I remember a week or so ago Petros Papadakis was a guest on Jim Rome. They spoke about the Michigan and Notre Dame game and both said that Michigan had no chance in the game and that Brian Kelly had turned the program around in one game. Then in his atrocious radio show this week he said that Michigan is a one man team that will start 5-0 and finish 5-7. People like this exist, it's sad but true. Lynn Henning is just another idiot that will be eating his words once the season has ended.
September 17th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
Lynn is a great guy. He baptized my child. That said, when it comes to sports, he's a relic from a bygone era.
September 18th, 2010 at 1:16 AM ^
Lynn - you're always wrong!
