I have employees who spent thousands of dollars in tickets this season and on hotels. They don’t have that type of money, but this franchise sold them hope.
December 15th, 2019 at 7:18 PM ^
The Browns will fire Kitchens and hire Don Brown.
Then Jim Harbaugh will add two new DCs, me and Sparty.
December 15th, 2019 at 7:20 PM ^
Imagine being a Lions fan...
60+ years with 1 playoff victory despite having arguably the best running back and wide receiver in history. They fired their winningest head coach in forever for a "rocket scientist" that made them cellar dwellers again. At least the Browns have the talent to be solid if they can find a decent coach.
December 15th, 2019 at 7:26 PM ^
Wow. This is spooky.
December 15th, 2019 at 7:22 PM ^
Imagine being a UM Football fan and only winning 9-10 games yearly, tied for the division last season, make it to a NY6 Bowl every other year. Damn, we suck, too!
December 15th, 2019 at 7:27 PM ^
Don’t have to. I’m a Lions fan.
December 15th, 2019 at 7:31 PM ^
Why?
Why is anyone a Lions fan at this point?
The Lions are so bad they cannot even be bothered to go 6 - 10 anymore.
December 15th, 2019 at 7:42 PM ^
Same reason I can't root for Alabama or Clemson: Watching the Lions continuously lose is still more interesting to me than watching any other team win, except maybe some good playoff games.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:35 PM ^
So watching shitty football is more enjoyable that watching good, competent, football?
December 15th, 2019 at 9:44 PM ^
Usually, the team they're playing is competent, so you're still watching competent football.
December 15th, 2019 at 10:05 PM ^
Why do people go to high school football games if the only reason to watch is the level of execution?
December 15th, 2019 at 10:21 PM ^
I mean I don't really watch most of it. If the Lions were good or had a Barry Sanders type I probably would.
The NFL is kind of blase in general IMO, tho Baltimore and KC are maybe onto something.
December 16th, 2019 at 3:05 AM ^
You're on a sports blog but can't comprehend how fandom works?
December 16th, 2019 at 4:39 PM ^
Because they're the only professional football team that resides in the same state i do, like most fans. Rooting for only good teams does not make you a better fan, it makes you a shit fan. (go Pats/Lakers/Yankees/Bama amirite).
December 15th, 2019 at 7:32 PM ^
I'm sorry.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:01 PM ^
I root for the teams in the state I grew up in because that’s how it’s supposed to work. Nothing worse than a Cowboys, Yankees and Bulls fan.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:26 PM ^
Well shit, i was born and raised in ohio...
December 15th, 2019 at 10:24 PM ^
It's really just who you grew up rooting for.
Or if you move to a new city you can adopt that team.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:48 PM ^
Civic pride is NOT >>>> than the Fords putting a shit product on the field for 2 generations.
December 15th, 2019 at 7:36 PM ^
Congrats to the Browns for sticking a W on Arizona. The L's are now in sole position of the 5th draft spot, and likely to move up to third or fourth next week with the Giants playing the Redskins and the Dolphins playing the Bengals.
I hear they've got their eyes on OSU TE Luke Farrell for their first round pick.
December 15th, 2019 at 10:56 PM ^
Can they draft a competent organization first?
December 15th, 2019 at 7:38 PM ^
Imagine being Shea Patterson. Some of us don’t have to...
December 15th, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
Trying to imagine who,s life is more miserable, Browns fans or GOMBLOGS.
Go Blue
December 15th, 2019 at 7:51 PM ^
Genuine question: Are the Lions the worst sports franchise of all time (in the US)? I would’ve argued the Clippers about ~10 years ago, but they’re relevant now and have been for a bit...I honestly don’t know and - although I love the NFL - I don’t pay attention to the Lions...
December 15th, 2019 at 9:52 PM ^
Easily.
Like you mentioned, also-rans, even in other leagues, have experienced spurts of success.
The Lions have won 1 playoff game in 60+ years.
December 15th, 2019 at 10:55 PM ^
No. The St Louis Browns will always be the worst.
December 15th, 2019 at 11:19 PM ^
Fair enough! Congrats (I guess)
is there a franchise currently in existence across professional sports that is worse than the Lions?
December 15th, 2019 at 11:41 PM ^
I don't know. We have had 53 Super Bowls (soon to be 54), and the Lions have been in none of them.
Even the St Louis Browns - horrible as they usually were - made one World Series in their 52 years!
(admittedly it was during World War II, and MLB was considerably different during the War years, but they DID make it).
December 15th, 2019 at 8:03 PM ^
This is why I’m convinced that the universe is attempting to balance itself out with all of the consistent, wildly stupid success that OSU has had for over half a century.
The rest of the Ohio sports landscape is full of either one of two things:
1) Steaming shitpiles of organizations that are horribly run and never sniff championships. Or:
2) Perennial underachievers or “close but no cigars” who can only win a championship once every 50-60 years.
December 15th, 2019 at 8:10 PM ^
I heard the entire state of Ohio rode Lebron's dick to a title though.
December 15th, 2019 at 8:36 PM ^
The fact that I got this joke means I read this blog too much.
December 15th, 2019 at 8:19 PM ^
As a 27 year old Browns fan, this is worse than being a Lions fan. I have only known failure (mostly). It sucks when you couple that with Michigan's losses as well.
But I will say not every Browns fan hopped on the hype wagon. I was against promoting Freddie from the beginning. I never wanted to trade Pep for Odell. Etc.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:10 PM ^
Ha, 27 years old? I think it’s cute that you think you have any idea of what it is like to be a Lions fan.
December 15th, 2019 at 10:26 PM ^
The people I feel true pity for are Lions fans that are too young to remember Barry.
December 15th, 2019 at 10:49 PM ^
I have an idea what it's like to be a Lions fan in the time I've been alive. Namely, better than a Browns fan haha
December 16th, 2019 at 6:46 AM ^
As I Giants fan, I thank the Browns for the Pep trade. The Giants are garbage now; they would've been garbage with Odell. At least now I have somebody to root for and a reason to watch this dumpster fire.
December 15th, 2019 at 8:19 PM ^
When you're a Lions fan, you can legitimately say things like 'fuck the Browns'. So yeah, fuck the Browns and their Johnny come lately suckiness. Get some time sucking, asshats.
And for all the Browns fans that want the comparison to be real, tell me again about those AFC Championship games...
December 15th, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
LOL - great post. The Lions truly are the only NFL fan-base looking UP at the Browns' level of success. We are legitimately jealous of the Browns.
Nobody is jealous of the Lions, of course. Bengals? 2 Super Bowls in the last 30 years. Cardinals? A Super Bowl about 10 years ago. Jets? Nobody feels sorry for New Yorkers, but they made 2 straight AFC Title Games around 2010. Jaguars? Even they have been to 3 AFC Title Games!
December 15th, 2019 at 9:54 PM ^
don't forget the other o-fer franchise in the NFL has since won a Super Bowl.
The once o-fer Lions are headed for 3 wins this year.
December 15th, 2019 at 8:45 PM ^
Imagine having Kenyan Drake on your fantasy bench today.
FML.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:01 PM ^
I guess misery loves company, but nobody wins the "who's worse" debate. We do have proof that an NFL team had to leave Cleveland to be successful, whereas we just assume it with the Lions.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:18 PM ^
I'm not sure we should be throwing stones...
December 15th, 2019 at 9:25 PM ^
Imagine being a Lions fan, it’s just as bad.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:35 PM ^
The difference between the Lions and the Browns is that only a moronic Lions fan would go into a season with hope of any success. The Browns actually thought theyd be good so people got invested. Its easy as eff to be a fan of a shitty team, you just dont really give a shit about what happens. Its worst when people have expectations and then get crushed. Like Michigan fans who year after year actually go into the OSU game convinced we will win..now thats real suckers for punishment.
December 15th, 2019 at 9:54 PM ^
Mineral King makes a random OT subject about the Browns and didn't know who Sweet Lou was.
I think we have a Buckeye troll on our hands.
December 15th, 2019 at 10:29 PM ^
Browns > Lions
jump off a cliff, it ain’t even close.
December 15th, 2019 at 10:37 PM ^
No sympathy at all for Browns fans.
100 percent of them (and yes I say that with exactitude) are O$U fans.
They're completely content trading in a lousy NFL franchise for a college franchise that his much more profitable and with a more efficient payroll.
December 16th, 2019 at 6:13 AM ^
I am a Browns fan and a Michigan fan, but not an OSU fan. So your 'exactitude' is incorrect.
December 16th, 2019 at 10:55 AM ^
Sorry but this is a dumb take. 3rd generation UM with 4th generation there now and a passionate fan of all CLE teams. Truth is most front running Buckeye fans are also Pittsburgh Steeler fans. It is the worst possible combo.
