OT: Helmet Upkeep *not a post about another potential German recruit.*

I’ve been curious about this for a while and figured MGoBoard would be a good place to ask.  Football helmets get pretty beat up during games, especially the linemen’s.  Scratches, gouges, scrapes, chipped paint, etc.  It would seem that it would be quite a process to fix them and the players would need theirs for practice the following week, which would likely lead to more damage.  When are the repairs and re-painting done?

Thanks!

“- Dr. Suzanne Carter: What are you doing here?
- Paul Blake: Well, I'm kinda bleeding in your doorway. Can I come in?
- Dr. Suzanne Carter: Sure. Didn't I tell you to wear a helmet?”

They have separate helmets for games and practice. I believe they get sent to a few different companies that repaint the game helmets every week.

Obviously a football program like michgian has multiple helmets that allow them to be swapped out and refurbished as required.

Are they allowed to just switch helmets? I ask because I read in the NFL they cannot as it was medically advised players wear one helmet all season to ensure better fit/limit risk. Now we can never see Bucco Bruce and the fighting creamsicles as throwbacks.

I was hoping this was about Helmet, the alt metal band from the 90s fronted by Page Hamilton, who is doing their 30/30 tour (30th anniversary tour playing 30 songs each night, in 30 cities, with no opening act), playing in Detroit at St. Andrews Hall in November.  But it's about football and I am pretty happy about that

Helmut Upkeep should be the Tacopants of the offensive line.  Should one of the large gentlemen upfront whiff on block, the explanation is "Looks like he was passing that rusher off to Helmut Upkeep."
