OT: EMU Beats CMU in Thriller, 26-21

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

I was probably the only one watching this on ESPN3, but EMU just beat CMU in a thriller, 26-21. EMU blew a 20-7 lead, then scored on a long TD pass with 22 seconds left to win. It was a damn exciting game. The Eagles are now 7-5 and are almost assuredly heading to their first bowl game since 1987.

Chris Creighton's team was 1-11 last year. It'll probably be another year before he makes the jump to a Purdue-level program, but for now, let's show a little Wolverine love to our Washtenaw County neighbors. Way to go, EMU.

That's what sucks about schools like EMU. It only took them about 12 tries before they found a good coach, and he's certainly going to be hired away in the next year or two.

No not really, just don't really understand the EMU hate in a thread applauding their success, especially after a lengthy history of failure. It oozes of arrogance that I don't appreciate and judging by down/up votes I am not the only one. But, I apologize if I have offended you. It was really more directed at Magnus and his thinly veiled arrogance above, you just happened to be the one that replied to me.

EMU spent $27.3 million of general fund (i.e., money that could have gone to student services, teaching faculty, etc) on atheltics just in 2015.

It's nice that the team is 7-5; I hope they go to a bowl as a reward for their hard work (as long as EMU is not forced to buy and eat 10,000 tickets).

But I'm not going to cheer on a program that's existence literally has required staff and faculty to be fired over the past few years.

So you don't like the people hired to make decisions at EMU. I am guessing there are a lot of EMU Alums and current students who read this blog(including myself) who can't control that and blatantly saying "I don't like EMU" or "EMU sucks and so do their facilities!" sure doesn't help. When Dave Brandon was shitting the bed as athletic director, it didn't make me hate the Michigan football team that I have rooted for since I was five years old. Or make me think that the University that my grandfather, father, uncle, and multiple cousins went to sucked. Not everyone can go to the greatest University in the world, I know this, but it doesn't help to be reminded of that fact by the people that did/do. But whatever man, c'est la vie.

Not sure what sunshine I am blowing about my alma mater. If anything my comment blew sunshine about your alma mater and my love for it. I was just trying to figure out some of the hatred here for mine (which I at least got from Mr. Pollard). All I got from you was, ''don't like me shitting on your alma mater? Then you should leave." So I will leave, with a Go Blue! and Beat Ohio! Hopefully I don't ever have to run in to you, or anyone like you in my non-internet life. Cheers!

I know people who have lost their jobs b/c of the cutbacks.  If you think that makes me not as excited about EMU going 7-5, well, you got that right. Because whether they went 10-2 or 2-10, EMU still would be wasting millions.

EMU (and CMU and WMU) need to get real. Spending $20 million, per year, on Div 1A athletics when funding for higher ed is not getting any better is shameful.

Just because I don't have a fondness for EMU doesn't mean I'm arrogant. I also don't like MSU, OSU, Triscuits, eggplant, and Justin Bieber. People can have differing opinions without being told to go f*** themselves or called arrogant. If the comment were about MSU, nobody would have batted an eyelash. Clearly, some people around here have a sensitivity issue when it comes to EMU. If you like the school, good for you. Our opinions differ. I hope you have a merry day. You're neither arrogant, nor do I think you should go f*** yourself. It's just different strokes for different folks.

FWIW, I would never tell you to go f*** yourself. I was just asking you to explain further what sucked about EMU, because without context, your comment came across as arrogant "Don't forget, EMU academics also suck!" b.s. No hard feelings on this end and you are certainly entitled to your opinion, I was just trying to get you to elaborate on it. And it looks it was a hot take about the dorm food, which my 30 pound overweight freshman self would have to disagree with.

Ha, I was watching. Had one game on my phone, one on my computer, and the third game on my TV. All three games had great finishes. I bet the MAC gets pretty frustrated when they schedule 3 games on a Tuesday night and only gets one of them national TV.

Stuff like this reminds me why college football is so much better than the NFL. Emotion plays such a huge role at the collegiate level.

Fleck looked insane for rowing the boat, and Creighton the same for his Factory. Players obviously bought in though, and the results speak for themselves.

This isn't possible any more, but I secretly wanted MSU to finish 5-7 and get invited to the Little Caesars bowl to play EMU. That way the Ann Arbor faithful could show out and root on the Hurons.

Good for them. Still think the football program is a bit of a white elephant, but that's not the fault of the guys on the field, and this is a legitimately impressive achievement.
