He cheated, but he also worked some nice magic with that young talent. Good hire

If you're not cheating, you're only cheating yourself.

I'm cool with it

I am all for it! Go Tigers!

IMO this is a good hire by the Chisox. They are a good 2-3 years ahead of the Tiger Plan and could put them over the hump immediately. Tony is getting up there in years but is still a baseball genius.

Absolutely. If you haven't read "Three Nights in August" that follows a Cards - Cubs series in 2004, you should. It's a really interesting dive into the intricacies of what he's thinking as a manager during that series.

Countdown to the inevitable Chicago White Sox steroid scandal begins in... 3... 2... 1...

This is the most unexpected and best managerial hires I’ve seen in decades. Good for the ChiSox. Hate that it will make it harder the the Tigers but I’m excited to see what LaRussa will do with that talented team.
October 29th, 2020 at 10:24 PM ^
I don't know...LaRussa in his prime was good. But nearly a decade after leaving the game and 76 years old? In an era where baseball is in the middle of an analytics shift in both defense and pitching? Call me skeptical.
And while I am conflicted by Hinch...LaRussa has even more shady events in his past with breaking rules.

Notice that the signature highlighted in yellow appears to be AJ Hinch's, not LaRussa's.

It would be hard for me to see past the cheating. I mean I guess he paid a price, but still hard to get past that. Also, how would the Astros have fared without the trash can breaking ball?
October 29th, 2020 at 9:42 PM ^
Like Kevin Cash, he just does what the front office tells him. His value is that he is able to convince players they should eat their shit sandwich and like it. The Tigers still need players though.

Are you new to America? Winning > Cheating

My man!

White Sox fans are irate.
October 29th, 2020 at 9:41 PM ^
Wait. The Tigers might get the best available manager?
October 29th, 2020 at 9:58 PM ^
I wish AJ Hinch didn't have the stank on him from Houston, but everything I recall reading in the aftermath of the scandal was that Hinch took ownership of his responsibility and he admitted immediately that he failed to stop the sign stealing when he became aware of it. He didn't lie and deny it; he didn't play the blame game.
Since he's apparently the best manager available and he has served his punishment, I'm ok with hiring him.
October 29th, 2020 at 10:47 PM ^
From what I've read, he wasn't the leader of the trashcan/outfield camera setup, tried to stop it (though not very hard, since it kept going on and he obviously benefitted), and as you said, he said the right things after getting caught. So, all good with me basically.

If Hinch went from the Astros to another great team like the Braves, it'd leave a sour taste.
Going to the team at the bottom tho is more like a redemption story. If he has success again, he's going to have to earn it. Seems like justice.

That's a positive direction for sure for struggling franchise

Not sure how to celebrate? Bang once on the lid of the trash can or is it 2 bangs on lid of recycling? I'll text Alex Cora to find out.
