The Folksmen were nasty back in the day.
gangsta too. Can they rap?
-throwing up the 'E'- East Coast, Brooklyn. Who better to represent than Gang Starr...it's MASS APPEAL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBJxBBhvSjc.
And F it...I'm almost ashamed to call it, but come on, the video link is to the Arsenio Hall Show - that's gotta be +1. That's gotta be plus one.
EDIT: for the sledgehammer to the coffin - Put up Compton against the Boogie Down, I dare you. If you know hip-hop, you'll know - 10 times out of 10, it's the South Bronx, the south south Bronx - http://www.last.fm/music/KRS-One/+videos/+1-FsgZRPByX7c. KRS-ONE! And I don't even have to go Simmons on you FTW.
old school Motley Crue. Rock on!
i still think that ice cube's "death certificate" is probably the best 'gangsta rap' album ever made.
still listen to it - almost 20 years later.
ice cube has definitely fallen off since then.
there are some clunkers - but overall, IMHO, still the best album made during the west coast boom of the early '90s
since he claimed to "kill more crackers than Boznia-Herzegovina" in one of his songs. I'm not particularly sensitive, but that's a little bit too much.
I just googled the lyric. I'm not easily offended either, but that's just poor. I'm a bit sick to the stomach now.
You may know the rapper/singer C-Lo from Gnarls Barkley, who had the hit "Crazy." If I remember the line from his rapper days, it goes something like:
The crackers don't give a fuck, why should they?
They're evil from their head to their toe, so how could they?
This is referencing the AIDS epidemic.
Says the guy whose career is entirely dependent on Danger Mouse.
At the time it was East Coast, but in the decade plus since, I've really grown to love NWA.
Trick Trick,
You might want to change that avatar, it's just been confirmed on the Billy Mays thread that Lady Gaga is packin' some extra meat. NTTAWWT, actually it's pretty fucked.
I'd still hit it.
It happened to me and every one of my friends on our trip to Thailand.
these boys are talking *classic* hip-hop!
East Coast finest lyrical wordsmith...
Classic diss song...one of the best ever.
Whatcha got son?
Dre and Snoop stuff. The Chronic and Doggystyle are great. I think NWA had broken up by the 90's. I don't think of Wu as "gangsta" rap, just hardcore. If Wu counts though, it's them by a country mile.
