been confirmed? What an underwhelming hire if that's the case.

It's all they can get.

Hey Tennessee, Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvve you met Moorhead?
November 26th, 2017 at 6:01 PM ^
ESPN (and others) reported they were finaling the contract, but I doubt it happens. Knoxville is rising up as one against it. Three state reps have said they'll get involved to stop it.
November 26th, 2017 at 7:32 PM ^
or representative from Tennessee and expressed outrage on the US Capitol floor because Peyton Manning didn't win the Heisman?
Politicians in Tennessee need to get their priorities straight

Nothing has been reported as finalized and the latest information I've seen suggests the sudden uproar might be a deal breaker.

Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley both have famous successful father coaches, so they were practically can't-miss! You can't blame them for, um, missing...
November 27th, 2017 at 9:19 AM ^
Was he left for a better job after 20 minutes. Not only does that disrupt recruiting, but Tennessee ended up hiring Dooley afterwards in what I can only assume was desperation.
I'm not suggesting Kiffin is a great coach or even a good one, but he'd have left the program in better shape if he'd gotten fired after three years. I do think he's probably a decent choice for a second-tier program in a place where they can ignore his personality; he appears to have done a nice job this year at Florida Atlantic.
Of course he's unlikely to stay there.

Is this because of his connections to Paterno/Sandusky, or because of his coaching record? Both?
November 26th, 2017 at 6:29 PM ^
Paterno/Sandusky
Just read now that the final signatures may not happen given the uproar.
Would have guessed that Schiano is older than 51. If he wants to be a HC again, he doesn't have to jump at this gig which would appear to be "not a great fit" to say the least.
November 26th, 2017 at 8:22 PM ^
Our Tennessee standards mean something, and a Greg Schiano hire would be anathema to all that our University and our community stand for. I sincerely hope that these rumors are not true, because even serious consideration would be unacceptable.
nambla valley might not be a place in tennessee
EDIT: now saying the deal is 'off'.
found this chart, too. helps to keep track of it all. i hope the formatting works out...

Some of these schools have pretty good offenses. Should free up a decent OC or two for us to take a look at.
November 26th, 2017 at 7:05 PM ^
That's interesting. Ohio fans never seemed to complain about the connections. I wonder why.

it leaked after OSU hired him.

Kevin Wilson could have been busted molesting collies and nobody would budge. . .
November 26th, 2017 at 8:43 PM ^
The specific allegation leaked then. But obviously they knew he'd served under Sandusky.

November 27th, 2017 at 7:15 PM ^
By whom? Bradley might have been mistaken, or McQueary might have misheard, but "framed" implies intent and I'm having trouble coming up with a reason either would have lied.
November 26th, 2017 at 9:44 PM ^
He probably has more dirt than Schiano but that didn't bother them either.
November 26th, 2017 at 10:23 PM ^
That if Schiano was a great hire, Tennessee fans would be claiming that the Paterno/Sandusky allegations are nothing but hearsay and Schiano was fully vetted by the University. They may as well keep Brady at this point. He's better than anybody else they will find.
November 26th, 2017 at 10:25 PM ^
so here is gif of Tennessee's athletic department right now...
November 26th, 2017 at 8:23 PM ^
Oh yeah, I live in TN and everyone is upset with this hire. Most of them had unrealistic expectations like Jon Gruden, which doesn't help, but most are pissed because of his connection to the PSU program. If he wins I am sure most of them would change their mind.
edit: Wow, apparently politicians are getting invovled now. No one wants him in this state.

This hole is only getting deeper. Apparently Schiano signed the paperwork, so Currie, UT's AD, had to "fire him" thus now owing him 20 million dollars.
HAHAHAHAHA

its an agreement to agree with usually the main points worked out. but in the absence of language that would be unlikely to have been included, no, it is not enforceable as a contract.
November 26th, 2017 at 10:22 PM ^
depends on what the language says
November 26th, 2017 at 7:18 PM ^
Meyer will stick up for Schiano. I'd bet lots of $$$ on that.
McQueary has said what he said about both Schiano and Tom Bradley ....... yet several organizations (CBS Sports and UCLA w/ Bradley, OSU w/ Schiano) have still hired the latter two. I seriously doubt any of those organizations wouldn't have done some of their own investigating prior.
