OT: "Chrissy Pronger" Tribune insert

Submitted by tk47 on

Thought this was pretty funny:

On one hand, I think it's awesome that the Tribune did this because I hate Pronger and he clearly deserves it (he's been one of the dirtiest players in the league for a long time).  On the other hand, it's obviously highly unprofessional and inappropriate (although what would you expect from the sports section of a Chicago newspaper).

Anyway ... just thought this would be a welcome 1-minute distraction from the Dorsey drama.  You may now resume being depressed.

I suppose this is unprofessional and inappropriate.

I'd prefer this kind of unprofessionalism and lack of propriety to what Detroit gets from Rosenberg, Synder, Sharp, Foster, etc.

But you have to respect the hall of fame credentials...Stanley Cup...gold medal etc.

I would say the newspaper article was classless and stupid. You wouldn't see that sort of thing in, say, Toronto or Montreal where game analysis actually matters in the media.

i don't know how classless it was, but the stupidest thing about it is the bulletin board material it creates.  pronger may be a dick, but except for game 5 he was the best player on the ice and seriously hampered the hawks- raising his ire and fueling his fire is not doing the hawks any favors.   hey, maybe the chicago papers are more like detroit papers than we thought?  what other town would do their level best to make it more diffcult for the team they "support".

Frankly, if the refs actually forced Pronger to play even sorta cleanly I wouldn't have as much of a problem with him or all the credit he's getting.  Philly was the second most penalized team in the NHL this season and I believe Chicago was the second least, yet Philly has had far more power plays.  A lot of this is the refs simply ignoring that Pronger's method of shutting down Byfuglien, for example, has been nothing but "crosscheck him repeatedly until he's knocked to the ice".  They're not going to call as much in the playoffs, but good lord, the rulebook doesn't get completely thrown out after the regular season.

That said, I was surprised this showed up in the Trib.  I wouldn't have been surprised if the Sun-Times did it, but although the Trib has taken a clear turn for the worse since they were bought out  they still have the residual feeling in my mind of being the reputable paper here.

I just saw the presser on SportsCenter where some poor schmuck tried to ask Pronger about this Tribune Insert.  He asked if he had seen it, to which Pronger said "I don't read any of the stuff you guys write."  So then the reporter proceeded to describe the skirt picture, and then was trying to ask a question about if this provides any motivation for Pronger, but Pronger talked over him saying "Next question" over and over again while the guy insistantly kept attempting to finish his question.  Might be just a "tough guy" act by Pronger, but he definitely had no interest in addressing it or hearing about it.  Couldn't tell if the skirt thing got to him or just the annoying reporter.  Guess we'll see if it motivates him at all tonight.

I admit, Pronger's comment after his nightmare Game 5 (-5, and on the ice for one power play goal, and in the box for the other) that he was "day to day with hurt feelings" was pretty damn funny though.

I'm not sure it's worth 5,000 words or whatever the Salon article was, and I certainly don't think it's worth censoring, but you do understand how "he [sporting action]s like a girl" would be generally insulting to women, right? Let's try some others:

"He lends money like a Jew"

"He fights like a homosexual"

"He thinks like a black guy"

"He treats women like a frat boy"

Hey, it's all in good fun, right?

TRUTH:  6-6, and wears a Size 6 Shoe.

Watch the game tonight, and it'll be impossible for you not to notice it.  AND of course, you can come to your own conclusions about foot size and manhood, et. al.
