OT: CHANCE 3 (Chance The Rapper)

Submitted by WolverineJet on

For all my fellow Chance fans, wanted to have a place to see what you think about the Mixtape.  Been waiting for a long time for this.  Drops at 11PM tonight.

LOL. Who the hell is Chance? *sigh* The glory days of rap (90s) have never been missed more.

Rap music is not "dead", but it certainly isn't anywhere close to what it was in the early 90's.  I really liked that Palmer Squares joint, also the new J-Zone album is really good, and Meyhem Lauren just dropped a pretty dope album.  You are right, that the best hip hop resides in the underground, always has.  Unfortunately we will never get another 1991-97 era again.  I could listen to Lord Finesse, Wu, Gangstarr, Tribe on the east, UGK, Geto Boys, 8ball and MJG in the south, Dre, Snoop, Above the Law, Too Short, Freestyle Fellowship and  Heiroglyphics in the West. All coasts were dropping tons of quality.  You could literally watch Rap City and get dope music from every coast.  Now, the masses get exposed to Hip Pop acts like Kanye and Drake, and they are considered the best of the time.  It's sad really.  I like a guy like  Kendrick Lemar, but I don't find his music to be that jaw dropping, mainly because he isn't really bringin anything new to the table.  I loved Run the Jewels and El-P is a guy who has evolved in every way.  I can listen to the dystopian Funcrusher plus all the way to Run the Jewels 2 and appreciate everything in his catalogue.  Brings a old school vibe to new school hip hop.

and it's ironic that he turned into the whack rapper he swore he wasn't in his first album - an all-time great regardless of genre. Hip-Hip-hop is fine right now. I'll take it over the bs bling rap that was flooding the scene in the early 2000s. Kanye killed that shit so I'm grateful but he just a trash rapper now. He ruined every great beat/track/sample on Pablo with his weak ass lyrics, IMO. I just like this generation of rappers.

entire album is great. About 3-4 years ago I got into No name Gypsy and came across AR due to checking out random tracks she was on. Her track on AR isn't bad at all but it was enough to check out the rest of the album. I immediately knew I'd found my new hip-hop when I heard the opening horn to Smoke Again lol. Checked out his other stuff and liked it. Listening to 3 right now.

He's one of the acts at a music festival I'll be attending this summer. Had never heard of him before the lineup was announced. After listening to the couple of songs I could find by him online, I decided his set will be a good time to take a break and hit a couple of the nearby craft breweries.

I never would have given Chance an afterthough if not for Ultra Light Beam. Then I went back and downloaded Acid Rap and thought it was pretty good.

Definitely will give Chance 3 a good few listens

Kanye is weak now, was the only good thing about UB and forced Kanye to add Waves but of course Kanye killed it by starting it with some "see if my dick fit in yo bitch" bs lol. Killed the vibe and point of the song immediately. Same for Pt.1, Facts, etc.

Chance needs to get some help behind the boards, because the beats are pretty weak.  Not really feeling the dudes voice or lyrics.  I would give it a meh on the total shit-instant classic scale.  Or a 5 out of 10.
