OT: Better Call Saul mid season finale (caution: spoilers)
Board seems a bit slow so I’d thought I make a post to discuss the Better Call Saul mid season finale which just ended.
And I gotta say: wow!!! While Howard was a bit of a douche, he did not deserve to get murdered like that. And it made me pissed off at Jimmy and Kim. This is their fault.
The rest of the season picks up in a couple months it’s clear now that they will focus on the Fring-Salamanca story. I’m curious how they’ll pull Jimmy and Kim into this because as of now, they are currently not a big part of that story.
Just finished it. I'm kinda speechless at the moment.
Holy shit is all I have to say. Can't wait for July 11th.
Holy fuck.
They have to close out the Lalo and Kim stories and maybe explain what's after for Saul. It seems obvious what Lalo's fate is. I have a guess as to what happens at the end.
At first I thought they’d have kill Kim off to make the story mesh with Breaking Bad. But since they did that with Howard, I think they have something more sophisticated for Kim.
My instinct is that Kim meets the vacuum salesman before Saul likely to escape Lalo/be protected by Saul. They flashed the card in the last episode already.
I think Lalo will last a few more episodes, but won't be around until the end because Saul is the main story and likely will be resolved last. Breaking Bad already has the Gus story resolved.
My predicted ending is that Saul meets up with Kim in some random location.
Saul meets up with Kim somewhere in Nebraska? That certainly tracks with what crumbs we have been given. Maybe she is running the Mrs. Fields in a competing Omaha mall. But I do not see a ride into the sunset for Kim and Jimmy/Saul/Gene. Too much water under the bridge.
Edit. Upon further reflection, Kim is actually running the Mrs. Fields in an Anchorage Alaska mall where she runs into Jesse Pinkman and lives happily ever after. Why not?
I thought about that, but I don’t think the vacuum sales guy would send Kim to her home state. I’d think he’d try get her to some place where people would not be looking.
Yep. Kim uses the Sandpiper settlement, or a good part of it, to pay off the vacuum salesman. It requires big bucks to go off into the sunset with that guy.
Kim is from Nebraska and that's where Saul ends up. I can't imagine that is a coincidence.
Lalo's fate is anything but obvious, and remains unknown (at least to Saul) as far in the future as Breaking Bad S2E8, when Saul is mugged and held a gunpoint by Walter White and Jesse out in the desert. Nacho's fate is still unknown to Saul as well...
Yea, its going to be interesting to see how they reconcile your posted video against what we are seeing now in BCS. Understanding Lalo's personality, there is no other fate than being killed since he is not (beyond your posted video) involved in BB in any capacity. I can't see that happening if he wasn't dead.
I am not sure how the timelines coincide, but this could well be an overlap of the two stories.
I’m not blaming Jimmy and Kin for Howard’s death. Howard put himself in their apartment and he was told to leave several times. Besides, he was a dick.
I think Lalo just pulled Jimmy and Kim into the Fring-Salamanca feud, so it won’t be hard to keep them in the story.
"Besides, he was a dick."
That's reason enough for blowing a guys head off, right?
On TV, yes.
lol, he was being a dick. Jimmy and Kim just pulled off an extremely elaborate ruse to ruin Howard's career just because they wanted some money and Howard's supposed to be like, "Oh you said please when telling me not to confront you about this? Oh okay, toodaloo!" Maybe if Howard had politely asked Jimmy and Kim not to sabotage his life then they'd be the dicks instead.
I'm going to disagree. Howard was a complete douche, but he wasn't a dick in any sort of way. He didn't care much for Jimmy and treated Kim like dirt for a bit, but he always ended up helping any way he could. He didn't deserve to be fucked over by them in the first place, let alone to get popped in the head. Jimmy and Kim were assholes to do anything like what they did, and his blood is on there hands.
Holy shit.
Poor fucking douchebag Howard. He didn't need to go out like that.
I'm still waiting for the important question to be answered.
Who is Cliff Main's son?
The last few episodes are going to be a wild ride
Wow, that's a great question about Cliff Main's son, it could turn out to be one of the junkies from breaking bad.
They could probably have a spin off about all of those characters too.
That would kinda hilarious if his son was Skinny Pete
It can't be Skinny Pete, he mentioned that his dad was a contractor during Breaking Bad. My money is on Combo
Good point. But didn’t the RV in Breaking Bad belong to Combo (or his grandmother to be precise). If so, we had a chance to see Combo’s life which doesn’t fit with someone who could be the son of Cliff Main.
I could be wrong.
Combo's last name is Ortega. Badgers last name is Mayhew. They never give us Skinny Pete's last name so there's a chance there at least. But he also says his son's name is Gregory. Maybe Gregory Main goes by the name of Spooge
WOW! Did not see that coming. Great acting by Patrick Fabian.
Watched last week's This Is Us and someone was cutting onions big time. This week Lalo takes out Howard and I'm screaming at the TV! Both shows much better when recorded and watched 30 minutes later to cut out all the freaking commercials.
Vince Gilligan says there are too many left turns and surprises to explain in the last six episodes. Can't wait.
No commercials when streaming BCS through the AMC Roku app.
Yeah I should revisit that ROKU vs XFINITY package thought process.
Poor Howard, I also keep wondering what eventually happens to Kim, she was never on breaking bad, that will be an interesting story line.
Lalo is scary, creepy and immensely interesting all at the same time. So many great actors on the show.
By the end of the show, I had become sympathetic to Howard. He was presented at a douche, but he was also a very buttoned up lawyer who was overwhelmingly positive.
Did he try to prevent Jimmy from becoming a partner? Yes, but rightfully so!
Howard was the good guy in all of this.
Best show on television. I am going to seriously miss this show once it comes to an end.
Never watched it or Breaking Bad. Or the Sopranos. I take it I should probably start binge watching this summer?
At risk of committing blasphemy, I do think that BCS is better than BB. So yea, I recommend binge watching it.
Both shows are fantastic but I agree that BCS is the better of the two
But do I need to watch BB to understand BCS?
Good question. Probably not. Since BCS is essentially a prequel to BB, BCS can stand on its own I believe. But watching BB gives you a lot of clues as to what happens in BCS.
Interesting question since the vast majority of people started watching BCS because they loved BB. I'd be curious how you'd react to seeing Gus Fring in BCS without experiencing him in BB.
You don't, but I would highly suggest you do it that way. Watching it in order will you give you the effect that we all got. I envy you getting to watch gold back to back.
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are both great, one thing people dont realize is they both (especially BCS) spend A LOT of time building up the characters. You will read criticism of them both for being slow but dont let that deter you. Better Call Saul is smart, fun, and very very character driven. Like Breaking Bad there are so many little nuances/clues leading you up to bigger reveals, its fun.
The Sapranos is in a class of its own. Tony is likeable, and people want Tony to be likeable but he makes all the "wrong" decisions. I think thats a big driver as to why people loved the show, outside of the typical gangster/drama/action.
Actually, The Wire is in a class of its own.
I agree with this as well.
We are talking about some of the Greatest TV series ever right now
That we are.
Deadwood, too. Shakespeare set in an 1876 Dakota mining camp.
tell me again how Saul and Kim by association are not a big part of the Fring-Salamanca storyline?
tell me again?..............again!! Who helped Saul bring that money back from Mexico? Who does he work for? Oh yeah, he's connected and when Lalo smells trouble, he tends to get to the bottom of it?
I didn't say they were not at all a part of the Fring-Salamanca story line, just that as of now they are on the periphery. But that is all about to change very soon.
Beyond Saul representing Lalo (and helping him bring money from Mexico), Saul hasn't done anything major directly with the cartel. There were some interactions with Mike E, but he didn't become part of the cartel until recently. I mean, has Saul formally met Gus?
Lalo has no periphery. Also as to Saul, once you're in you're in.
There isn't any way you can slice it to say Howard deserved this. This was Kim and Jimmy dangling a guy on a string for good armchair sex.
Let's talk :)
Damn that ending was wild. I just sort of sat there frozen for a few minutes. The candle flicker before Lalo walks in. I honestly have no idea how things will go from here. No way Howard's body sees the light of day, right? Is everyone at HHM and his family going to assume he just disappeared? Man, so many questions. The last six episodes are going to be awesome.
damn, that was a great episode
