OT: Better Call Saul mid season finale (caution: spoilers)

Submitted by WindyCityBlue on May 23rd, 2022 at 10:23 PM

Board seems a bit slow so I’d thought I make a post to discuss the Better Call Saul mid season finale which just ended.

And I gotta say: wow!!! While Howard was a bit of a douche, he did not deserve to get murdered like that. And it made me pissed off at Jimmy and Kim. This is their fault.

The rest of the season picks up in a couple months it’s clear now that they will focus on the Fring-Salamanca story. I’m curious how they’ll pull Jimmy and Kim into this because as of now, they are currently not a big part of that story.

They have to close out the Lalo and Kim stories and maybe explain what's after for Saul.  It seems obvious what Lalo's fate is.  I have a guess as to what happens at the end.

My instinct is that Kim meets the vacuum salesman before Saul likely to escape Lalo/be protected by Saul. They flashed the card in the last episode already.

I think Lalo will last a few more episodes, but won't be around until the end because Saul is the main story and likely will be resolved last. Breaking Bad already has the Gus story resolved.

My predicted ending is that Saul meets up with Kim in some random location.

Saul meets up with Kim somewhere in Nebraska? That certainly tracks with what crumbs we have been given. Maybe she is running the Mrs. Fields in a competing Omaha mall. But I do not see a ride into the sunset for Kim and Jimmy/Saul/Gene. Too much water under the bridge.

Edit. Upon further reflection, Kim is actually running the Mrs. Fields in an Anchorage Alaska mall where she runs into Jesse Pinkman and lives happily ever after. Why not?

Yea, its going to be interesting to see how they reconcile your posted video against what we are seeing now in BCS.  Understanding Lalo's personality, there is no other fate than being killed since he is not (beyond your posted video) involved in BB in any capacity.  I can't see that happening if he wasn't dead.

I’m not blaming Jimmy and Kin for Howard’s death. Howard put himself in their apartment and he was told to leave several times. Besides, he was a dick.

I think Lalo just pulled Jimmy and Kim into the Fring-Salamanca feud, so it won’t be hard to keep them in the story.

lol, he was being a dick. Jimmy and Kim just pulled off an extremely elaborate ruse to ruin Howard's career just because they wanted some money and Howard's supposed to be like, "Oh you said please when telling me not to confront you about this? Oh okay, toodaloo!" Maybe if Howard had politely asked Jimmy and Kim not to sabotage his life then they'd be the dicks instead.

I'm going to disagree.  Howard was a complete douche, but he wasn't a dick in any sort of way.  He didn't care much for Jimmy and treated Kim like dirt for a bit, but he always ended up helping any way he could.  He didn't deserve to be fucked over by them in the first place, let alone to get popped in the head.  Jimmy and Kim were assholes to do anything like what they did, and his blood is on there hands.

Holy shit.

Poor fucking douchebag Howard. He didn't need to go out like that.

I'm still waiting for the important question to be answered.

Who is Cliff Main's son?

The last few episodes are going to be a wild ride

WOW! Did not see that coming. Great acting by Patrick Fabian.

Watched last week's This Is Us and someone was cutting onions big time. This week Lalo takes out Howard and I'm screaming at the TV! Both shows much better when recorded and watched 30 minutes later to cut out all the freaking commercials.

Vince Gilligan says there are too many left turns and surprises to explain in the last six episodes. Can't wait.

Poor Howard, I also keep wondering what eventually happens to Kim, she was never on breaking bad, that will be an interesting story line.

Lalo is scary, creepy and immensely interesting all at the same time. So many great actors on the show.

By the end of the show, I had become sympathetic to Howard. He was presented at a douche, but he was also a very buttoned up lawyer who was overwhelmingly positive.

Did he try to prevent Jimmy from becoming a partner? Yes, but rightfully so!

Howard was the good guy in all of this.

Good question.  Probably not.  Since BCS is essentially a prequel to BB, BCS can stand on its own I believe.  But watching BB gives you a lot of clues as to what happens in BCS.

Interesting question since the vast majority of people started watching BCS because they loved BB.  I'd be curious how you'd react to seeing Gus Fring in BCS without experiencing him in BB.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are both great, one thing people dont realize is they both (especially BCS) spend A LOT of time building up the characters. You will read criticism of them both for being slow but dont let that deter you. Better Call Saul is smart, fun, and very very character driven. Like Breaking Bad there are so many little nuances/clues leading you up to bigger reveals, its fun.

The Sapranos is in a class of its own. Tony is likeable, and people want Tony to be likeable but he makes all the "wrong" decisions. I think thats a big driver as to why people loved the show, outside of the typical gangster/drama/action.

tell me again how Saul and Kim by association are not a big part of the Fring-Salamanca storyline?

tell me again?..............again!!  Who helped Saul bring that money back from Mexico? Who does he work for?  Oh yeah, he's connected and when Lalo smells trouble, he tends to get to the bottom of it?

I didn't say they were not at all a part of the Fring-Salamanca story line, just that as of now they are on the periphery. But that is all about to change very soon.

Beyond Saul representing Lalo (and helping him bring money from Mexico), Saul hasn't done anything major directly with the cartel.  There were some interactions with Mike E, but he didn't become part of the cartel until recently.  I mean, has Saul formally met Gus?

Damn that ending was wild. I just sort of sat there frozen for a few minutes. The candle flicker before Lalo walks in. I honestly have no idea how things will go from here. No way Howard's body sees the light of day, right? Is everyone at HHM and his family going to assume he just disappeared? Man, so many questions. The last six episodes are going to be awesome.
